Zimbabwe Cricket selected Dave Houghton as their new head coach on Tuesday, June 14. The former Zimbabwean captain will assume command ahead of the ICC Men's T20 World Cup Qualifier 2022, which will begin in June. He is likely to take over as captain ahead of the ICC Men's T20 World Cup Qualifier 2022, which will be contested in Zimbabwe in July.

Lalchand Rajput, the Zimbabwe cricket team's current coach, has been named Technical Director. After the experience concluded his spell with the Afghanistan national team, Zimbabwe hired former South African all-rounder Lance Klusener as their batting coach. However, they are currently looking for a new bowling coach.

Dave Houghton earlier coached Zimbabwe, leading the team to a Super-Six finish in the 1999 World Cup. In 2009, the 64-year-old was also appointed as Zimbabwe's director of national coaching. He has also worked as a coach for Derbyshire, Somerset, Worcestershire, and Middlesex.

Hamilton Masakadza, the former right-handed batsman, appreciated Houghton with open arms.

"We are thrilled to be introducing Dave, and we mean a thing ourselves lucky and grateful for the opportunity to assign such a massively professional and qualified recognized Head Coach at a time when we are aiming to increase our on-field showings."

"With Lance also returning as batting coach, we presume we now have a powerful technical team that can motivate for World Cup qualification while ensuring our players constantly put in challenging performance results."

Dave Houghton batted at 41.83 in 22 Tests for his country. In 1994-95, he had the highest individual score of 266 against Sri Lanka. He also represented Zimbabwe in 63 One-Day Internationals.
