Steve Smith is missing out on the second phase of IPL 2021 conducted in the UAE. He is suffering an elbow injury and that is why he will be missing the second leg of IPL 2021. He has also decided to not participate in the T20 World Cup 2021 as he prefers to stay fit for the Ashes.
Steve Smith is a part of the Delhi Capitals in IPL captain by Rishabh Pant in the absence of Shreyas Iyer. Due to the rise in Covid cases in India, the IPL stopped in between and BCCI decided to postpone it. Finally IPL 2021 is resuming once again in UAE from mid-September according to Vijay Shukla, the vice President of BCCI.
In an interview with Cricket.com.au, Smith told, “I still wasn’t quite 100 percent (during the IPL), it was still bothering me a bit, and I was playing over there medicated – taking some painkillers and anti-inflammatories every time I batted,” he said. “It got to a point where it wasn’t really improving much, and it probably got a little bit worse while I was over there.”
When asked about T20 World Cup participation, Steve Smith said, “I’d Love to be Part of the World Cup, for sure, But from My Point of view, Test Cricket is My Main Goal – to be right for the Ashes.”
