#5 New Zealand | 517-8 vs England (1996)

Highest Totals in Women's Test Cricket

Touring England for three Test matches, a Sarah Illingworth-led New Zealand women’s unit stacked up 517 runs in the series opener to record one of the highest format totals of all time. Up against England’s 414-run first innings total, New Zealand openers Shelley Fruin and Debbie Hockley both listed half-centuries at the top before number three batter Kirsty Bond (204) produced the first-ever double ton in women’s Test history.

#4 Australia | 525 all out vs India (1984)

In the third Test of Australia’s month-long tour of India in early 1984, the Aussie smashed 525 runs at Ahmedabad to scale an 182-run first-innings lead over India’s 343. As many as three Australian players brought down centuries in the innings, with captain Jill Kennare top-scoring with a career-best 131. Opening batter Peta Verco scored 105 while unbeaten Karen Price cracked 104 runs while batting at number eight. Australia’s batting effort across Days 2 and 3 of their four-day stalemate with India eventually resulted in a tame draw.

#3 Australia | 569-6d vs England (1998)

In the opening Test of the 1998 Ashes in England, the visiting Australian team recorded 569-6 before captain Belinda Clark called for a declaration. The innings helped Australia soar past New Zealand’s 517 from 1996 to crack the highest total in women’s Tests. Number three Joanne Broadbent top-scored with 200 from 476 balls to become the first Australian player in Test history to score a double century. Debutant Mel Jones also made her way to a career-best 131 in the very first innings of her five-match Test career.

#2 Australia | 575-9d vs South Africa (2024)

Highest Totals in Women's Test Cricket

Hosting South Africa in a one-off Test match in February 2024, Australia shattered multiple records at Perth’s WACA. They became the highest-ever recorded total in women’s Tests at the time, breaking their own 26-year-old feat of 569-6d against England. After electing to field first, Australia all out South Africa for a paltry 76 before scoring 575-9d in just 125.2 overs at a prolific scoring rate of 4.58 in response.

Australia were struggling at 12/3 before a 155-run partnership between Beth Mooney and Alyssa Healy helped them recover. Annabel Sutherland, who walked in at six, smashed a double century to add. South Africa could not chase the huge 499-run lead taken by the Aussies as they were bowled out for 215, losing the match by an innings and 284 runs.

#1 India | 603-6d vs South Africa (2024)

Highest Totals in Women's Test Cricket

The India women's cricket team holds the record for the highest totals in women's Test cricket. Opting to bat first, India rode on Shafali Verma's 205 and Smriti Mandhana's 149 to post a huge score of 603/6d in a one-off Test against South Africa Women at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai in 2024. Earlier, the hosts put in a stunning display of power-hitting as they reached 525/4 on the first day of the one-off Test. Shafali Verma created history by scoring the fastest double-hundred in Women’s Tests reaching the feat in just 197 balls.

India’s 603-6d was also powered by the half-centuries of middle-order batters Jemimah Rodrigues (55 off 94 balls), captain Harmanpreet Kaur (69 off 115 balls), and wicketkeeper Richa Ghosh (90-ball 86).

Delhi Capitals continued the trend of successful chases in WPL 2025 with a seven-wicket victory over UP Warriorz on Wednesday in the final game in Vadodara. Annable Sutherland kept her cool under pressure to stitch a 48-run partnership with Marizanne Kapp to chase down 167 with 1 ball to go.

UP handed debut cap to Chinelle Henry

With the dew in mind, Delhi Capitals captain Meg Lanning won the toss and decided to field first. Delhi brought in Niki Prasad, the player of the match from their first match against Mumbai Indians, replacing Radha Yadav.

Meantime, UP handed debut cap to West Indian all-rounder Chinelle Henry in place of Alana King. Saima Thakor was replaced by Rajeshwari Gayakwad.

Navgire gave UPW a perfect start

Meg’s decision to bowl first backfired as Kiran Navgire dismantled their opening bowlers with devastating batting.

Kiran Navgire showcased why she is rated so high in this format after a 27-ball 51 as UP scored 66 in the powerplay. But, the situation changed soon as Delhi struck back with three quick wickets to send back Dinesh Vrinda(16), Kiran Navgire (51) and Tahila McGrath (1).

Annabel Sutherland dismissed the first two while Jess Jonasen removed Tahila McGrath. UP captain Deepti Sharma could only add 7 as she was stumped by Sarah Bryce off Minnu Mani.

But young Shweta Sehrawat showed patience to build a partnership with Grace Harris first and then alongside Chinelle Henry.

Henry impressed on debut

Shweta was dismissed on 37 from 33 balls but debutant Henry hit massive sixes to take UP’s total over 160. Henry even hit Shikha Pandey for 22 in four balls in the 17th over.

Henry hit 3 boundaries and 3 sixes to score an unbeaten 33 from 15 balls as UP reached 166/7 in the first inning.

Sutherland with 26/2 was the pick of the bowlers for Delhi.

Lanning and Shafali with a perfect powerplay for DC

In the second inning, just like UP Warriorz, Delhi also had a devastating start. Openers Shafali Verma and Meg Lanning scored 60 in the powerplay to set up them for an easier chase.

However, it was not all smooth and easy for the Capitals as they struggled to get going after Shafali Verma’s (26) wicket in the sixth over. Jemimah Rodrigues was dismissed on a duck in the next over by Sophie Ecclestone.

Things started moving slowly for them after that, and Meg Lanning’s dismissal on 69 off 49 balls in the 15th over made things tighter.

Poor fielding costs UP the game

Sophie Ecclestone dropped Annabel Sutherland on 23 in the 16th over and then Deepti Sharma dropped Marizanne Kapp in the 19th over to ease things out for Delhi Capitals.

With 11 needed from the final over, Sadar land, heat, and back-to-back boundaries in the second and third ball of the over to take Capital home with one ball remaining.

Sutherland remained unbeaten on 41 from 35 balls while Marizanne Kapp was undefeated on 29 off 17 balls. With this win, Delhi Capitals moved to 2nd place in the points table.

During the chase Giants got rid of Hayley Matthews (17 off 19) in the fourth over through Tanuja Kanwar to start a possible comeback. Yastika Bhatia also could only add 8 for Mumbai. Captain Harmanpreet Kaur also got out in the second ball, after striking a boundary in the first ball against Kashvee Gautam.

But, just like the first match, Nat Sciver-Brunt was the saviour with the bat for Mumbai Indians. With Amelia Kerr (19 off 20), Nat built a 45-run partnership to take Mumbai’s total to 100.

Run scoring was not that easy on that wicket but Nat Sciver-Brunt was like playing on a different surface all-together. The English all-rounder completed her second fifty of the season in 33 balls. Nat though could not finish the job as she dragged one down to the stumps from Priya Mishra on 57 from 39 balls.

S Sajana hit the winning runs for Mumbai as they chased down the total with 23 balls remaining in the inning. With this win, they have now moved up to the number two position on the points table.

What did the captains say after the match?

"We just lost wickets in clumps. We put a lot of onus on the top order to score a bulk of the runs but it wasn't to be (tonight)," Gardner said in the post-match presentation.

"Whatever we talked about in the team meetings, we executed. Really happy everything went according to our plans. The first six overs are very important. Our bowlers did a great job," Harmanpreet Kaur stated.

Gujarat Giants under new captain Ashleigh Gardner have looked a far better side, specially as a batting unit. After scoring 201 against RCB in their first match, they chased down 144 with two overs to go against UP Warriorz in their second match.

In both the games, captain Ashleigh Garner was the star of the show. She scored fifties in both the games and registered the feat as the first Gujarat Giants batter. With 131 runs in two matches, she is currently the Orange cap holder of WPL 2025.

The bowling line up also did better in the second match, after getting bashed down against RCB in the first match. Priya Mishra was excellent with here three-wicket haul against UP Warriorz.

However, it is the all-rounder Dendra Dottin, who has been the "missing link" for them this season as the West Indian powerhouse has been solid for them.

The Orange army would love to continue their winning run and momentum. Thus, we can expect no changes in the playing XI as well. However, toss would be a vital factor in the match as chasing has looked an easier task in Vadodara with the dew in effect.

Nat Sciver-Brunt scored an unbeaten 80 in the last match. Image | BCCI

Nat Sciver-Brunt as usual looked by far the best batter from their team with a solid unbeaten 80 from 59 balls. However, she lacked support from the other as Mumbai were only able to put 164 on the board. They would love to have players like Hayley Matthews, Yastika Bhatia and Amelia Kerr.

However, Hayley Matthews and Amelia Kerr were superb with the ball in hand along with Shabnim Ismail. Except for Saika Ishaque, who went for 43 in her 4 overs, everyone was on point with their bowling effort.

With only one game behind them, Mumbai are unlikely to change and chop many things this early. So, we can expect the same playing eleven against a team they have never lost.

Though Lanning was steady and slow, Jemimah looked apart with shots around the ground. She hit two sixes one over the cover and one over square leg to prove her range of shots. However, it was her willingness to hit too many kinds of shots, which was the cause of her dismissal.

Despite scoring at more than 150 strike rate, Jemimah decided to play a reverse sweep and was stumped by Richa Ghosh off Georgia Wareham on 34 off 22.

In a small tournament like the Women’s Premier League, where matches are less, net run rate is something every team wants to have in their kitty. RCB after a great start also wanted to have a higher net run rate against Delhi Capitals.
