Meanwhile, Woakes, who performed strongly in July, has achieved ICC Player of the Month (Men) award. He left behind fellow player Zak Crawley and Bas de Leede of the Netherlands cricket team. Woakes took 19 wickets in 6 innings in 3 Tests of Ashes 2023 at an average of 18.14. His best performance was taking 5 wickets for 62 runs. Woakes was selected as the 'Player of the Series' from England for his strong performance. Only Mitchell Starc (23) and Stuart Broad (22) got more wickets than him in Ashes 2023. Woakes also scored a total of 79 runs in batting.
Chris Woakes won the ICC Player of the Month for the first time. The England seamer enjoyed a successful return to England's Test team. He drove their resurgence in the Ashes to claim a 2-2 draw amidst high drama.
On the other hand, Ashleigh Gardner of Australia has won the ICC Player of the Month award (Women). Gardner played four ODIs against England in July. She scored 160 runs at an average of 40.0 and a strike rate of 129.03. She also took 3 wickets in bowling. Gardner has achieved this honor by leaving behind her teammate Ellyse Perry and England's Nat Sciver-Brunt. Moreover, Gardner has become the first Australian to be named ICC Player of the Month for two consecutive months.
Following the success which saw her win the June award, Gardner continued her rich vein of form into July, this time demonstrating her prowess in the shorter formats. Returning a total of 232 runs with the bat, and 15 wickets with the ball, the all-rounder made telling contributions across the eight ODI and T20I fixtures she featured in during the calendar month.
Gardner and Woakes emerged victorious from votes gathered from global fans registered at icc-cricket.com and a specialist panel comprising ICC Hall of Famers, former international players, and media representatives.
