Rohit Sharma was chosen as the captain of the ICC Team of the Year in ODI, in which apart from star batsman Virat Kohli and the fast bowling duo of Mohammed Shami-Mohammad Siraj, two more Indians have got a place.

According to the statement of the International Cricket Council (ICC), most of the players who made it to the ICC Team of The Year are from India (runners-up) and Australia (winner), apart from them, who made it to the teams are semi-finalists New Zealand and South Africa.

Rohit and Shubman Gill have been given the chance to open the innings. The Indian captain scored 1255 runs at an average of 52 in the ODI format last year. Gill played an innings of 208 runs against New Zealand and was the highest run scorer in this format with 1584 runs. Australia's Travis Head has got the third place, who performed well last year and scored an inning of 137 runs in the final against India.

The middle order includes Virat Kohli, New Zealand's Daryl Mitchell and South Africa's Heinrich Klaasen and Marco Jansen. Kohli was the second highest run scorer in the ODI format with 1337 runs. He scored six centuries last year. He broke Sachin Tendulkar's record of most centuries in the ODI format and was named the best player of the World Cup.

Mitchell scored 1204 runs at an average of 52.34 and strike rate of 100.24 with the help of five centuries. Klaasen also dominated with the bat throughout the year. He also played a match-winning inning of 174 runs against Australia in Centurion. Apart from the Indian trio of Siraj, Shami and Kuldeep Yadav, Australia's Adam Zampa has got a place in the bowling attack. Zampa took 38 wickets at an average of 26.31 and four wickets in three consecutive World Cup matches. He remained second in the list of bowlers taking most wickets in the competition.

Siraj took 44 wickets last year, which included six wickets for 21 runs in the Asia Cup final against Sri Lanka. India registered a one-sided victory over Sri Lanka in the Asia Cup final. Kuldeep took 49 ODI wickets last year. His best performance was five wickets for 25 runs in the Super Four stage of the Asia Cup against Pakistan. Shami performed brilliantly throughout the year, taking five or more wickets in an innings four times. His best performance was seven wickets for 57 runs against New Zealand in the World Cup semi-final in Mumbai.
