India finally have been able to break their jinx of losing in the ICC finals after defeating South Africa by seven runs in the ICC T20 World Cup 2024 final. Since 1983, Indian men's cricket team have played 13 ICC finals and won in only 6 of them. After five back-to-back defeats in the ICC finals since 2013, Indian team have finally managed to win an ICC trophy.
Defeats in five consecutive ICC finals
Before winning the T20 World Cup 2024, team India had lost in the finals of the last two consecutive ICC tournaments. After the ICC Test Championship, they lost in the final of the ODI World Cup 2023. Team India has so far got a chance to play in the finals of a total of 12 ICC tournaments. But they won only four out of them.
India have won four ICC tournaments which include the 1983 ODI Cup, 2007 T20 World Cup, 2011 ODI World Cup, and 2013 Champions Trophy.
India had lost in the finals of the 2000 Champions Trophy, 2003 ODI World Cup, 2014 T20 World Cup, 2017 Champions Trophy, 2021 World Test Championship, 2023 World Test Championship, and 2023 ODI World Cup.
Only one ICC trophy since 2013
India, the winner of two ODI and T20 World Cups, have only won one ICC trophy since 2013.

Last played ODI World Cup final against Australia
India last played the ODI World Cup final against Australia in the ODI World Cup last year where it lost by six wickets. In 2023, the Rohit Sharma-led side also featured in the World Test Championship final at the Oval in London, again going down to Australia by 209 runs.
Last appearance in the ICC T20 World Cup final
In the T20 World Cup 2024, India defeated South Africa by 7 runs to win their second T20 World Cup title after 17 years. Virat Kohli was named the player of the match for his 76 runs.
