Jasprit Bumrah's comeback to the national side is halted again as BCCI decided not to rush the Indian pacer's return. Bumrah is yet to feature for the Indian team since the home series against Australia in September 2022. Although he was named in the original squad for the INDvSL ODI series, he will miss the entire series due to the injury.
Bumrah has suffered a stress reaction in back and has been doing rehabilitation at the National Cricket Academy in Bangalore. He was named in the squad after the coaches at the NCA felt he had recovered well from the injury and was blowing quite a bit in the nets.
BCCI does not want to rush him back into the scene with the ICC World Cup 2023 in mind. Moreover, the Australian series will be an important one for the World Test Championship as well. Due to this injury, Bumrah even missed the T20 World Cup 2022 where India lost to England in the semi-finals, who were the eventual winners.
Without Jasprit the Indian pace bowling will have Mohammed Shami, Arshdeep Singh, Umran Malik and Mohammed Siraj. Along with them, Hardik Pandya will also roll his arm over whenever needed.
It will be interesting to see if BCCI selects Bumrah for the New Zealand series which starts on 18th January after the INDvSL series.
India will be playing three ODIs against the Sri Lankan team after the win in the T20I series. India starts the series on 10th January in Guwahati.
