He started with a full toss to Mitchell Marsh, who played it safe, pushing it to deep midwicket for a single. Mohit then lost his line on the second, sending a short ball down the leg side to Nicholas Pooran—called a wide as Pooran left it alone.

Pooran made Mohit pay on the next ball, driving a full one to deep cover for a single. Another wide followed on the third, this time a short ball outside off to Marsh, who didn’t bother chasing it. Marsh kept the scoreboard ticking, driving a full ball to wide long-on for a single, and Pooran pulled a short ball to deep square leg for another single on the fourth.

Marsh capped the over with a cracking cut shot off a good-length ball, sending it to deep backward point for four—great timing! Mohit struggled with his control, and those extras didn’t help his cause.

10 runs from the over (1, 1 WD, 1, 1 WD, 1, 1, 4). LSG at 108/1 after the 9th.

Mar 24, 2025, 2:41 PM

8th Over: 9 from Kuldeep's first over | LSG 98/1

Kuldeep Yadav had an up-and-down over, with Pooran making him pay!

Kuldeep came into the attack and started tight, keeping Mitchell Marsh quiet on the first ball—a good-length delivery that Marsh could only defend to short mid-on for a dot. Marsh got going on the second, slicing a good-length ball with a cut to deep cover for a single.

Then, Nicholas Pooran took over—Kuldeep went full on the third, and Pooran swept it beautifully for four to deep backward square leg.

Kuldeep tried the same again on the fourth, but this time, Pooran missed the sweep, beaten for a dot. Undeterred, Pooran nailed another sweep on the fifth, sending it to the same spot for another four—great placement!

Kuldeep tightened up on the last, with Pooran defending a full ball to short midwicket for a dot. Kuldeep kept Marsh in check but couldn’t stop Pooran’s sweeping masterclass!

9 runs from the over (0, 1, 4, 0, 4, 0). LSG at 98/1 after the 8th.

Nicholas Pooran got going from ball one, Delhi Capitals vs Lucknow Super Giants, IPL 2025, Visakhapatnam, March 24, 2025

What? How can you drop that, Rizvi!

After three sixes in the first four balls of the over, Pooran made a mistake and top-edged while playing an aggressive cut shot. Sameer Rizvi dropped him on 17!

This would cost them big!

Pooran then finished the over with a huge six against Nigam.

6th Over: Expensive start from Mukesh | LSG 64/1

Mukesh Kumar had a rough time in that over—Marsh was in beast mode!

Mukesh started with a wayward short ball, called a wide as Mitchell Marsh couldn’t connect on his pull.

Marsh made him pay on the first legal ball, glancing a short one for a single to backward short leg.

Nicholas Pooran kept it ticking with a single to midwicket on the second, playing a defensive push. Then Marsh unleashed—on the third, he swiveled on a short ball and pummeled it over backward square leg for a towering six, absolutely out of here!

He wasn’t done; on the fourth, Mukesh went short again, and Marsh rocked back to nail a pull behind square for a boundary—pure power!

Mukesh tried to recover with a full toss on the fifth, which Marsh pushed for a single to mid-on. Pooran couldn’t capitalize on the last, stuck for a dot with a defensive push to silly mid-on. Mukesh got hammered by Marsh’s big shots in that over!

14 runs from the over (1 WD, 1, 1, 6, 4, 1, 0). LSG at 64/1 after the 6th.

5th Over: Nigam strikes | LSG 50/1

Vipraj Nigam struck in his first over, dismiss Aiden Markaram, DC vs LSG, IPL 2025, 4th Match | sportzpoint.com

Vipraj Nigam made an impact in that over, but it wasn’t without some damage!

The leggie came into the attack and started with Aiden Markram playing it safe, nudging a good-length ball to deep midwicket for a single.

Mitchell Marsh then took advantage on the second—Nigam went short, and Marsh rocked back to pull it hard for four to deep square leg, a cracking shot!

Marsh looked a bit shaky on the third, managing just a single with a defensive push despite being uncomfortable.

But Nigam struck on the fourth—a full ball tempted Markram into a lofted off drive, and Mitchell Starc took a sharp catch at long-off, a big wicket for LSG!

New man Nicholas Pooran struggled on the fifth, missing an aggressive cut for a dot, but got a streaky four on the last—another defensive shot that somehow raced away despite him looking all at sea. Nigam got the breakthrough but couldn’t stop the runs entirely.

9 runs and a wicket (1, 4, 1, W, 0, 4). LSG at 50/1 after the 5th.

Mar 24, 2025, 2:22 PM

4th Over: Tight over from Axar | LSG 40/0

Axar kicked off with Aiden Markram driving a good-length ball to wide long-off for a single, keeping it tidy.

Then Mitchell Marsh took over—Axar went good length again, and Marsh waited on it, slashing a cracking four through point that raced to the ropes in a flash! But Axar tightened up after that; Marsh couldn’t get the next three balls away—first a sweep that led to a loud appeal but no dice, then two aggressive cover drives, both stopped by fielders at short cover and short extra cover for dots.

Marsh finally broke free on the last, driving a good-length ball for two to deep extra cover. Axar kept the batters in check after that early boundary, but they still managed to sneak a few.

7 runs from the over (1, 4, 0, 0, 0, 2). LSG 40/0 after the 4th.

3rd Over: 21 from Starc's over | 33/0 after 3

Mitchell Starc had a nightmare in that over—taken to the cleaners!

He started with Aiden Markram stepping down to a good-length ball and absolutely whacking it over long-on for a huge six—out of the park, what a hit! Markram kept the pressure on, driving a full ball for a single to mid-on on the second. Then Mitchell Marsh joined the party—Starc went short on the third, and Marsh pulled it nonchalantly to forward square leg for four, racing to the ropes.

Marsh wasn’t done; on the fourth, he lofted a good-length ball for a massive six over deep midwicket- pure power!

He followed it up with another boundary on the fifth, pulling a short ball to deep backward square leg for four more. Starc tried to finish with a full toss, but Marsh couldn’t capitalize, pushing it to mid-off for a dot. Starc got no respite as those big shots piled on the runs!

12 from 2 without any wicket.

Mar 24, 2025, 2:05 PM

1st Over: 7 from Starc's first over | LSG 7/0

Mitchell Starc had a great start to the over, with four dot balls and one single.

But, in the last ball, he tried to swing it into the pads and missed his line a bit. Marsh was quick to latch on to this and flick it over square leg.

Seven in the first over.

LSG 7/0.

We have all heard multiple times that T20 cricket is a batter’s game. However, one thing is to be noted that it is a bowler who turns the game for his team most times. The teams across the world have understood the fact that they need a good set of bowlers to win a tournament. This is true in the biggest T20 tournament IPL as well.

Over the years, it has been seen that teams who possess quality bowlers perform quite well, while those who struggle in this department generally lag behind.

So, let's take a look at the bowlers with the most wickets in IPL history.

Most Wickets in IPL history

Ravindra Jadeja is easily the most well-rounded cricketer India has ever produced. A major portion of his success needs to be credited to the IPL, as the Saurashtra superstar built his international career by learning in the IPL under cricketing greats like Shane Warne, MS Dhoni, Stephen Fleming, and others.

Apart from missing the 2010 season, Ravindra Jadeja has played all the other seasons with him representing Chennai Super Kings (CSK) since 2012. He has played 240 games taking 160 wickets with the ball with an average of 30.40 and an economy rate of 7.62.

His generational fielding skills have also shined, as the 36-year-old has taken 103 catches in the competition, making him ‘The Ultimate All-rounder’ as he is the only player to have 1000+ runs, 100+ wickets, and 100+ catches, fulfilling his 3-dimensional abilities to the fullest.

9. Jasprit Bumrah | 165* Wickets

Most Wickets in IPL history

Jasprit Bumrah, the game-changer of the game has put his name at no. 9 on this list of bowlers who scalped the most wickets in IPL history. Bumrah has been playing for Mumbai Indians since the 2013 season, in which the franchise bought him at a cheap price.

Bumrah has scalped 165 wickets in 133 games with an average of 22.51. Meanwhile, Bumrah has bowled at an economy rate of 7.30 in the franchise cricket league. This year he will be playing for MI again as the franchise retained him before the mega auction.

8. Lasith Malinga | 170 Wickets

Most Wickets in IPL history

Lasith Malinga, who is undoubtedly the greatest pacer in the IPL history has taken 170 wickets in 122 games he has played. Malinga averages 19.79 with the bowl and maintained an economy rate of 7.14 in the cash-rich league.

Though 108 of these wickets have come in death overs where batters try to score at a faster pace and often get out in the process, still his overall numbers are too good to be questioned.

Malinga started playing for Mumbai Indians in the 2009 season, and last appeared in the 2019 season. His final over in the 2019 final was enough to prove his greatness even at that stage of his career.

7. Amit Mishra | 174 Wickets

Most Wickets in IPL history

The next bowler on the list is Indian leggie Amit Mishra who has picked 174 wickets in 162 games. The seventh-highest wicket-taker in the history of IPL, Mishra, went unsold in the mega auction of IPL 2025.

The Indian off-spinner was bought by Chennai Super Kings for Rs. 9.75 crore at the IPL 2025 auction. Ashwin had burst onto the scene in 2009 with CSK under the captaincy of MS Dhoni. He represented Super Kings till 2015 and was part of two title-winning campaigns, in 2010 and 2011.

He has been a crucial member of the Kolkata-based franchise KKR, as the franchise won the league back in 2012, 2014, and 2024.

Bravo had been a vital cog in Chennai’s bowling lineup, particularly in the death overs. With MS Dhoni being captain, Bravo’s potential has been used very cleverly for the team’s benefit.

The all-rounder has played 161 IPL games and averages 23.82 with the ball.

He played his last IPL match in the 2022 season for Chennai.

2. Piyush Chawla | 192 Wickets

Most Wickets in IPL history

Piyush Chawla, who was bought by Mumbai Indians for IPL 2021 in the mini-auction is the second-highest wicket-taker in the league history. He has picked 192 wickets in 192 matches with an average of 26.60 and an economy being 7.96.
