Kumar Sangakkara, one of the greatest wicket-keeper batters in history, sits in the first position in this prestigious list of the most international runs in a calendar year. In 2014, Sangakkara aggregated 2868 runs in all the 3 formats of the sport. He batted in 48 international matches with his highest score being 319 with an average of 53.11 and a strike rate of 67.41. Also, he smashed 8 centuries and 18 half-centuries to score the most international runs in an individual year.

2. Ricky Ponting

The Australian legend Ricky Ponting is the second most international run-scorer in a calendar year. In 2005, Ponting played 26 International matches and scored a total of 2833 runs where his highest score was 207. In that year, he hit 9 centuries and 15 half-centuries to aggregate the total runs. He ended the year playing in all three formats with an average of 56.66 and a strike rate of 70.94.

3. Virat Kohli

In 2017, Virat Kohli played in 46 International matches and aggregated 2818 runs. He is the third-highest international run-scorer in a calendar year. He smashed 11 centuries and 10 half-centuries to score the total runs with an average of 68.73 and a strike rate of 92.15. Also, his highest score of the year was 243.

4. Virat Kohli

Once again the king of cricket appears on this list by becoming the fourth-highest international run-scorer in a calendar year. In the very next year 2018, Virat Kohli scored a total of 2735 runs in 37 International matches. With an average of 68.37 and a strike rate of 72.39, he achieved this feat. His highest score of the year was 160* and also he smashed 11 centuries and 9 half-centuries.
