The National Cricket Club (NCC), a member of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), is hosting an exciting men's cricket tournament at the MGR Sports Academy in Birbhum. This tournament showcases the talent of six teams hailing from various districts of Bengal. Over 17 days, starting from January 11, 2024, to January 27, 2024, a total of 33 matches will be played, culminating in the grand final on January 27, 2024.

The participating teams include "Kalimpong Falcons," "Darjeeling Unstoppables," "Alipurduar Thunders," "Jhargam Firebolts," "Purba Mednipur Dragons," and "Combined Avengers." Notably, players in this tournament are not affiliated with any other member association of the Indian Cricket Board.

The primary objective of the tournament is to identify and showcase cricketing talent from districts like Kalimpong, Darjeeling, Alipurduar, Jhargam, and Purba Mednipur. With support from their respective district associations, players are given the platform to display their skills. The team "Combined Avengers" is a unique blend, featuring players from various districts.

To enhance the viewing experience, the matches are broadcasted live on the "Fancode" platform. Stringent anti-corruption measures have been implemented to ensure fair and smooth gameplay.

The tournament, hosted in Suri, Birbhum, has more than 100 players and match/team officials in attendance. The event kicked off with a grand inauguration, where the National Anthem played, and balloons were released, marking the commencement of the tournament with enthusiasm and excitement.

In a commendable effort to support the participants, NCC is providing team jerseys, food, accommodation, and travel allowances. Additionally, participating District Sports Associations receive a participation fee of Rs.50,000/- exclusively for cricketing activities in their respective districts. This comprehensive support underscores NCC's commitment to nurturing and promoting cricketing talent at the grassroots level.

In a thrilling opening match of the tournament, the clash between Kalimpong Falcons and Darjeeling Unstoppables delivered an exciting display of cricket action. The Darjeeling Unstoppables won the toss and elected to field, putting Kalimpong Falcons to bat first.

Kalimpong Falcons exhibited an impressive batting performance, amassing a total of 188/2 in their allotted 20 overs. Dinku Roy played a crucial role in this formidable total, contributing 64 runs, while the captain, Bishal Tamang, played an outstanding unbeaten knock, scoring 62 runs off just 36 balls.

Chasing the challenging target set by Kalimpong Falcons, the Darjeeling Unstoppables fought hard, led by a remarkable century from Abhijit Chakraborty. Despite his stellar effort, Darjeeling Unstoppables fell short, managing to score 180 runs in 20 overs, resulting in an 8-run defeat.

The bowling prowess of Kalimpong Falcons played a crucial role in securing the victory. Pritam Barik and Sumit Goyal each claimed 2 wickets, contributing significantly to restricting Darjeeling Unstoppables and clinching the win for Kalimpong Falcons.

This thrilling encounter marked a promising start to the tournament, showcasing intense competition and individual brilliance on both sides. Kalimpong Falcons' all-around performance, both with the bat and ball, set the tone for an exciting tournament ahead.

Alipurduar Thunders registered a comfortable win against Jhargram Firebolts

In the second match of the day, Alipurduar Thunders emerged victorious after winning the toss and opting to bat first. Alakash played a stunning cameo, smashing 63 runs off just 20 balls, including seven sixes, propelling his team to a total of 170/5 in 20 overs. The aggressive batting display set the tone for Alipurduar Thunders.

Facing the challenging target, Jhargam Firebolts gave it their best shot, but they were limited to 148/8 in their 20 overs. The duo of Deep Sengupta and Biswanil Dutta from Alipurduar Thunders showcased their bowling prowess by taking 2 wickets each, restricting the Firebolts' scoring opportunities.

Despite a valiant effort from Srinath Routh, who contributed with 49 runs, and a quickfire innings from Captain Tanmay Ghosh, scoring 52 runs in just 32 balls with 5 fours and 2 sixes, Jhargam Firebolts fell short of chasing down the target.

Alipurduar Thunders' solid performance in both batting and bowling secured their victory, showcasing their dominance in the match. The encounter highlighted the significance of well-rounded team efforts and strategic gameplay in the game of cricket.
