According to information received from the board, Morne Morkel's tenure will not be extended. He joined the team in June this year with a 6-month contract. His first assignment was a two-match Test series with Sri Lanka. Pakistan won this series 2-0.
After Morne Morkel's resignation, the Pakistani Cricket Board has not announced the new coach yet. The board has said that the name of the new coach will be announced when the time comes. Pakistan has to go on Australia tour from 14th December, where the team has to play a 3 test match series.
Pakistani bowlers had performed poorly in the World Cup being played in India and the team was out of the league round itself. The team has won only 4 out of 9 matches and is at 8th position with 8 points.
Babar Azam-led Pakistan team played 9 matches in the league stage in this World Cup, out of which they won 4 and lost 5. For the first time in the history of the World Cup, Pakistan has lost 5 matches. Babar's performance as a batsman is also being targeted. He could score only 320 runs in nine matches.
The Pakistani Cricket Board is furious with the team's disappointing performance in the World Cup. In such a situation, many changes can be seen in the team management in the coming few days. It is possible that Babar Azam may have to leave the captaincy.
