BCCI had already announced that the Ranji Trophy 2021-22 season will be concluded in two parts. One part will be before the IPL 2022 and another part will post the IPL. Now, the board has announced that the league phase of the season will start from the 16th of March.

Considering the IPL 2022, BCCI has a very tiny window to complete the domestic season. Earlier, the last season of Ranji season was called off the previous season due to Covid-19. As the IPL 2022 is set to start from 27th March, the league phase had to be completed within March 10. Moreover, the quarantine period for both the tournament needed to be thought of as well.
Eight teams in four groups will fight it out in the Elite and Palate groups for Ranji Triumph. The league phase will start on 16th February and will be completed on 5th March.

As per the new Ranji schedule Chennai, Ahmedabad, Thiruvananthapuram, Bengaluru, Rajkot, Cuttack, Guwahati, Kolkata and Hyderabad will be the chosen venues for the tournament.
According to reports by Sports Star, the teams will be starting their quarantine from next week. Although, few of the associations reported that they are still be informed by the BCCI. The press release with the new schedule is expected to be published tomorrow by BCCI.
The BCCI President Sourav Ganguly has confirmed that "looking at a normal Ranji Trophy format, where we will have six groups, six teams in each group, and five matches. However, due to time constraint, the Board had to opt for a different plan".
