Ranji Trophy 2023-24: Mumbai set to receive additional Rs 5 crore as MCA doubles the prize money

Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) has announced that the Mumbai cricket team will get an additional Rs 5 crore for winning the Ranji Trophy 2023-24.

MCA secretary Ajinkya Naik said, "MCA president Amol Kale and Apex Council has decided to double the Ranji Trophy prize money. The MCA will pay additional sum of five crore of rupees to the winning Mumbai Ranji Trophy team. It has been a great year for the MCA as the association has won 7 titles and we have made it knock out stage in all age groups in BCCI tournaments,"

Mumbai achieved the feat of winning Ranji Trophy for the 42nd time. In the final played at Wankhede Stadium on Thursday, Mumbai defeated Vidarbha by 169 runs. Chasing the target of 538 runs, Vidarbha team was all out for 368 runs on the last day of Ranji Trophy 2023-24.

Vidarbha needed 290 runs to chase the target of 538 runs on the last day of the Ranji Trophy 2023-24 final. Mumbai did not get any wicket in the morning session due to the 130-run partnership for the sixth wicket between Vidarbha captain Akshay Wadkar and Harsh Dubey. But after the dismissal of first Akshay and then Harsh in two consecutive overs before the tea break, Vidarbha's innings faltered and the entire team was all out for 368 runs. Tanush Kotian took a total of 4 wickets including Akshar Wadkar.

Musheer Khan batted strongly in the Ranji Trophy 2023-24 final. Musheer had scored 136 runs in the second innings. After this, two batsmen were dismissed in the second innings of Vidarbha. He was chosen player of the match. Tushar Deshpande also took 2 wickets. Earlier, Mumbai had scored 224 runs in the first innings. In response, Vidarbha team was all out for 105 runs in the first innings.

Mumbai team last won the Ranji Trophy in 2016. That means they have won the title again after 8 years.
