Sri Lanka will take on India (SL vs IND) in the 2nd ODI on Tuesday. The Lankans put up a decent show by scoring 262 runs, but it was not nearly enough to trouble the Indians. The lack of experience was clearly visible for Sri Lanka when they took the pitch. Sri Lanka:

Sri Lanka will probably rethink Udana's presence in the team. Lahiru Kumara or Kasun Rajitha are likeliest to replace him. Although the lions were off to a good start they couldn't carry on with the flow and lost way too many wickets in the middle overs. Dushmantha Chameera didn't get any wickets on Sunday, and yet, made several India batters uncomfortable with his pace. While Kishan was walloping everyone else, Chameera was the one bowler who seriously gave him a hard time.

Bhuvneshwar Kumar had been slightly off, particularly at the death on Sunday. As a result, India may bring in Navdeep Saini in the first xi. Moreover, Rahul Dravid had already mentioned earlier that everybody will get a game so rotations in the team will be very common. Shaw and Kishan produced a brilliant performance last day and are expected to retain their spot in the xi. However, Paddikal and Gaikwad will be surely waiting for their opportunity to open the innings.

Tata IPL 2023: Dasun Shanaka has replaced Kane Williamson in the Gujarat Titans squad

Gujarat Titans have brought in Sri Lankan allrounder Dasun Shanaka as a replacement for Kane Williamson, who was ruled out of the Tata IPL 2023 season after injuring his knee in the opening game of the season against Chennai Super Kings in Ahmedabad.

Sri Lanka's T20I captain, Shanaka is a batting allrounder. He has played 181 T20s, scored 3702 runs at a strike rate of 141.94, and taken 59 wickets with an economy rate of 8.8. He had scored 124 runs at a strike rate of 187.87 during Sri Lanka's three T20Is in India in January this year. This will be his first appearance in the IPL.

Williamson landed awkwardly with his right knee buckling under his weight while attempting a catch at in the 13th over of CSK's innings. He jumped to intercept a ball headed for six off Ruturaj Gaikwad's bat. Williamson managed to save two runs, palming the ball into the field of play before it bounced onto the boundary boards, but by that point, he was on the ground clutching his right knee. He couldn't continue in the game and returned to New Zealand for further assessment and treatment.

Sri Lanka T20I Squad against India:

The visitors named an 18-member squad on February 21 that had a maiden call-up for off-spinner Ashian Daniel. Hasaranga's exit on account of Covid-19 only waters Sri Lanka further down. Meanwhile, they do not have the services of Kusal Perera, Avishka Fernando (knee injury), Ramesh Mendis (thumb injury), Nuwan Thushara (side strain). Bhanuka Rajapaksa is also not a part of the squad. He could not meet the required fitness standards.

'Selectors don't pick you to be on holiday': Rahul Dravid

Rahul Dravid, the new Indian Cricket Team's coach for the Sri Lanka vs India series has had a lot to share. India lost the match and there were as many as four debutants in that game. However, it was the situation that lead to that many changes within the team. Not only that Rahul Dravid and management had to add Ishan Porel, Snadeep Warier, Arshdeep Singh in the squad for the reminder of the series.

It was Krunal's Pandya's covid news that lead to many confusion within the team. Even everyone was confused before the game that who will be playing or not. In fact, there was a lot of confusion on who is quarantined and who is not.

Before coming into the series Rahul Dravid had already said that he will try to give opportunities to everyone in the squad. And, it was fulfilled as a total of 6 players debuted for India in this tour.

With Devdutt Padikkal, Ruturaj Gaikwad, Nitish Rana and Chetan Sakariya debuting in the T20 series, Rahul Dravid think all of them are good enough to play for India.

"After we wrapped up the ODI series, we tried to give a few people a chance. Obviously, circumstances here have forced us to do it here even before we managed to win the series. But I truly believe that if you're selected to play for India – whether it's 15 players or 20 players – you're good enough to play in the XI. I don't really think that the selectors select you in the 15 just to warm the bench or for a holiday,"

Rahuld Dravid before the second T20I

Rahul Dravid on the "outside noise"

This massage from the Indian coach will certainly stop the outside noise of "not earning the cap".

I look at the squad, the 20 guys who are here, each of them has got here through sheer weight of performances. It's not easy in India. People earn the right to come here. It's not everytime that we're going to give everyone a chance here but it's really nice to be able to give as many as you can."

He then added that, "They are earning their India caps. I don't get that argument. Like I said, if you're selected in a team of 15 – with Covid now it's become 20, you are selected keeping in mind that you may need to play in the 11 at any given point of time. You have certainly earned the right to get that cap. It's up to you to take that opportunity and perform. I truly believe everyone who's here has earned it".

Sri Lanka:

Sri Lanka will now have to deal with some of the best IPL players in this T20I series. And they might have to do so without the top scorer and top wicket-taker in the LPL - Danushka Gunathilaka (suspended for bio-bubble breach while on tour in England) and Wanindu Hasaranga (recovering from injury). Kasun Rajitha has been ruled out with injury while Hasaranga is likely to return to the team despite the short turnaround. Sri Lanka might also consider bringing back Isuru Udana, who is more of a T20 specialist. They will heavily rely upon their spinners because it was them who took them home in the last ODI against India. Moreover, the Sri Lankan bowlers' spinning web helped clinch a victory against the reigning world champions West Indies in Antigua. However, it was their only victory in their last 13 T20i matches.

India is a bonafide contender for the World T20 title along with West Indies and England. This series will be the last chance for them to finalise their plans before the tournament. Chakravarthy, Ruturaj Gaikwad and Devdutt Padikkal were the only three players from India's squad who didn't get a game in the ODI series. However, there are no real vacancies in the batting line-up. Varun Chakravarthy could potentially make his first international appearance. Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Deepak Chahar are likely to slot back into the XI, having been rested among six changes on Friday.
