Sunrisers Hyderabad defeated Punjab Kings by eight wickets in Match 14 of IPL 2023, at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad on Sunday. Chasing 144 runs, SRH reached 145/2 in 17.1 overs, with the help of an unbeaten knock of 74 runs off 48 balls by Rahul Tripathi. Captain Aiden Markram also slammed an unbeaten knock of 37 runs off 21 balls. An unbeaten knock of 99 runs off 66 balls by Shikhar Dhawan, packed with 12 fours and five sixes set up a target of 143/9. Hyderabad won the toss & decided to bowl first. Punjab had a poor start as they lost early wickets. Skipper Shikhar Dhawan held his ground but didn't get the help he needed. They lost 3 wickets under 22 runs. Sam Curran played a good cameo but Punjab needed a partnership more than a cameo. He lost his wicket for 22 runs and Punjab fell into utter danger.
Mayank Markhande picked up 4 wickets in his 4-over spell after giving only 15 runs. He dismissed Sam Curran, Shahrukh Khan, Nathan Ellis & Rahul Chahar. Marco Jensen & Malik picked up two wickets each. The whole team contributed only 38 runs for the team. Shikhar Dhawan fought alone and remained not out till the end with 99 runs in 66 deliveries with 12 fours and 5 sixes. He missed out on his century but played his part clearly in the match. Punjab put up a total of 143 runs after the end of 20 overs.

Hyderabad went to chase with Harry Brook & Mayank Agarwal as openers. Arshdeep Singh picked up the early wicket of Harry Brook. Mayank Agarwal made 21 runs but Rahul Chahar picked up his wicket. Rahul Tripathi played an impressive inning of 74 runs in 48 deliveries & remained not out alongside skipper Aiden Markram who scored 37 runs in 21 deliveries. Sunrisers Hyderabad chased the score within 17.1 overs with a 100-run stand between Tripathi & Markram. Hyderabad registered their first victory of the season while Punjab faced their first loss.
