India star Virat Kohli won the ICC Player of the Month Award for October 2022 for his exploits in the T20 World Cup 2022. Kohli won the honor after having been nominated for the new award for the first time in his career. The former India captain pipped the likes of David Miller of South Africa and Sikandar Raza of Zimbabwe for the top prize.

Virat Kohli has been rewarded for his sensational start to the T20 World Cup 2022 campaign in Australia. Kohli played 4 knocks in October 2022 and hit 205 runs, including two fifties at a stunning strike rate of 150 and an average of 205.

It was on October 23 that Virat Kohli played one of the knocks of his career. He smashed a 53-ball 82 not out in a stunning chase against Pakistan in their T20 World Cup 2022 opener against Pakistan at the Melbourne Cricket Ground.

"It is a great honor for me to have been voted the ICC Men's Player of the Month for October. Being chosen as the standout player by fans across the globe as well as the panel makes this accolade even more special for me."

Kohli said, as quoted by the ICC

"I want to pay tribute to the other nominees who performed so well during the month. Also to my teammates, who continue to support me to perform to the best of my ability," he added.

Virat Kohli's winning knock against Pakistan is being hailed as one of the greatest in the shortest format. India captain Rohit Sharma also labeled Kohli's knock as arguably the best played by an Indian cricketer in T20s.

India was reduced to 31 for 4 in their chase of 160. Then Kohli played a magical knock, hitting 4 sixes in his 53-ball 82 not out. Kohli did not lose his composure when India needed 28 off the last 8 balls. He delivered a stunning finishing punch.
