Abishek Porel, the young and talented wicketkeeper-batter, shone on the second day of the third Ranji Trophy Elite Group B match against Chhattisgarh at the Eden Gardens on Sunday. The 21-year-old scored his maiden first-class century, smashing a brilliant 114 runs to take Bengal to a commendable score of 381/8 at stumps.
Abishek's remarkable innings spanned 219 balls, during which he hit 14 boundaries and one six. The veteran Anustup Majumdar also played a crucial role and scored a fighting 71 off 118 balls, putting the Laxmi Ratan Shukla-coached side in a strong position.
Bengal's bowler, Suraj Sindhu Jaiswal, played a counter-attacking 33 not out off 51 balls, along with Karan Lal (24 batting), adding an unbeaten 50-run partnership for the ninth wicket to take the team closer to the 400-run mark.
Abishek was thrilled with his performance and credited his success to his coach and captain. He told CAB Media, "Head coach (Shukla) told me to come 30 to 40 minutes before the reporting time today in the morning to practice short balls. At the end of the day, it did help me immensely. The guidance and backing coach and captain Manoj Tiwary gave me till date, is unbelievable."

"I would like to dedicate this century to my parents for their support specially during the start of my career. I will rate this century as the highest point of my career, as scoring big in red ball is special and playing Test cricket for my country is a dream for me," Abishek went on to add.
After his dismissal, Abishek, running out of partners, played some attacking shots to get Bengal past the 300-run mark before ending his brilliant innings. Sourabh Majumdar, Vasudev Bareth, and Shashank Singh were the pick of the bowlers for Chhattisgarh, with two wickets each.
