In 2022 World Cup, Gabriel Jesus will play no further part in Brazil's World Cup campaign after he suffered a knee injury during last night's defeat against Cameroon.

The 25-year-old made his first start of the competition, deputising for Tottenham's Richarlison, but endured a dispiriting evening as his run without a goal for club and country extended to 14 matches.

After the game Jesus complained of feeling pain in his right knee, an area that has caused him considerable trouble in the past.

Jesus underwent medical examinations this morning after which it has been determined, according to Globo Esporte and Fabrizio Romano, he will not feature again in the tournament.

Arsenal forward Jesus looks likely to need a month on the sidelines to get over an injury to his right knee.

Manchester United defender Telles, who is on loan at Sevilla, may need surgery on his knee issue and is expected to be out for longer, according to Brazilian news outlet Globo.

It means that Jesus will miss the rest of Brazil's World Cup campaign and also some of Arsenal's festive fixture schedule as he recovers.

He was replaced by Pedro during the second-half of Friday night's final group game against Cameroon and was pictured with an ice pack strapped to his knee on the bench.

Telles has suffered a more serious knee problem and he left the field in tears during Brazil's 1-0 defeat to Cameroon on Friday night.

He was replaced by Marquinhos after 54 minutes and looked distraught as he left the pitch.

Brazil were widely tipped as favourites to lift football's most coveted trophy, but they have had rotten luck with injuries so far. Talismanic forward Neymar is still a doubt for their round of 16 tie against South Korea on Monday after hurting his ankle on match-day one.

Despite the defeat and the damaging injury news, Brazil will have to soldier on as boss Tite admitted they "have to suffer".
