Belgium is set to host Italy in a fiery encounter in the UEFA Nations League group game, scheduled to kick off at 1:15 AM IST on 15 November 2024. The match will take place at the King Baudouin Stadium in Brussels, Belgium.

Belgium is currently in the 3rd position in the Nations League Group A2 having 4 points in 4 matches. Belgium snatched a point against Italy in the Nations League encounter in October 2024, as Leandro Trossard put up a brilliant performance with 1 goal and 1 assist in the 2-2 draw.

However, Belgium lost 1-2 against France in their last outing in the Nations League. Domenico Tedesco's men bagged only one win in their last five matches; so they will be hungry for a win against Italy.

Football is a sport that often brings limelight to certain footballers but sometimes keeps many at bay. Around football discussions worldwide, these footballers are not mentioned often, even after achieving significant accolades.

Talking about the underrated footballers in International football, we must understand that it is very different from club football. It is tougher to leave a mark except performing in the continental and World Cup-like tournaments in every four years.

However, these footballers have always performed masterfully well while donning their national kit, bringing noteworthy achievements to their respective nations. Still, they have remained underrated in the consideration of either the fans or the football pundits.

Sportz Point explores the top 20 most underrated players in international football in this special article. This list is not a rank, but a summarisation of some underrated footballers who deserve more praise.

Di Maria remained underrated for the gigantic presence of Lionel Messi as his teammate, but nothing can belittle his huge contribution to Argentina's recent success of winning four trophies in four years.

Italian Football Federation initiates investigation after Juve Stabia fans celebrate Romano Mussolini’s goal with fascist salutes

Italian Football Federation initiates an investigation to cultivate the instance of Serie B side Juve Stabia fans celebrating Romano Mussolini’s goal with fascist salutes.

The Italian Football Federation (FIGC) announced on Monday that it has begun investigations concerning the behaviour of supporters from the Serie B club Juve Stabia

This follows an incident on Sunday during Juve Stabia's game against Cesena when Juve Stabia fans celebrated a goal scored by Romano Floriani Mussolini with fascist salutes. Importantly, the 21-year-old footballer is the great-grandson of Italian dictator, Benito Mussolini.

According to footage circulated on social media, Juve Stabia supporters repeatedly shouted "Mussolini" at the instigation of the stadium announcer while performing a Roman salute or fascist salute.

An unprecedented event

Serie B: Tor von Mussolini-Urenkel Romano Floriani Mussolini sorgt für Eklat

Romano Floriani Mussolini scored his first senior professional goal for Juve Stabia, where he is on loan from Lazio for the 2024-25 season. The young right-back scored the only goal against local rivals Cesena, which gave Juve Stabia all three points in the Serie B.

However, Romano's joy of scoring his first professional goal was overshadowed by the Juve Stabia fans who celebrated his goal with a Roman salute, or fascist salute, that many people find to be offensive.

Romano always chose to distance himself from his family's political legacy to focus on his career as a footballer. When he had his first breakout with Lazio, his family background naturally came up but Romano requested people to judge him based on his performances.

He stated the following to Gazzetta dello Sport this year:

My great-grandfather, Benito, was a very important person for Italy but we are in 2024 and the world has changed,

However, The Italian Football Federation (FIGC) has taken a firm stance regarding this situation and started an immediate proceeding that can result in hefty financial sanctions or a ban if the club is proven guilty.

FICG stated to AFP:

Officials from the federal prosecutor's office (of the FIGC) will send a report on the incident, along with video evidence, to the sports judge of Serie B for a ruling,

Earlier this year, Italy’s top court ruled that performing the fascist salute is not a crime, unless it endangers public order or risks reviving the banned fascist party. In these controversial circumstances, Juve Stabia club has published an official statement on its club website denying the allegations.

Official Statement of Juve Stabia

SS Juve Stabia 1907, having taken note of the deliberate desire of a part of the national press to see in a simple exultation of the Stabia public, which followed the goal of an exemplary boy and a footballer who is defending the club's colours at his best on the football pitch, the most followed SPORT in the nation and not only, in other words with attacks on the square and on the member himself, specifies that the position of the club is one of absolute tranquility because for 117 years in Castellammare di Stabia people have celebrated for a goal of their hometown team and since the stadium has had a speaker and a sound system that following a goal of Juve Stabia the name of the footballer who scored the goal is announced by our speaker and the surname by the public with emphasis and raising their arms to the sky in a sign of sporting exultation for their favourite team and which represents their hometown. Romano Floriani Mussolini's goal against Cesena was his tenth at home in the championship, his ninth at Menti, and as always, the process after the goal was the same.

President Langella, surprised by the media coverage of the goal, which earned him fourth place in the standings, declared:

"Our ideals are always the same, they are based on fairness and respect for others, a healthy competitive spirit linked to sport and they do not change based on the surname of our members who are exemplary boys. We have fans who make us proud because they are among the most fair in the footballing boot, always being close to us. We do not accept exploitation for a golden boy like Romano Floriani Mussolini and the same goes for our fans who celebrated as they have always done in the past with any other athlete. The team is already ready and focused on the next challenge, pursuing our goal of salvation."

RB Salzburg

RB Salzburg have failed to perform consistently both in the Austrian Bundesliga and the UEFA Champions League this season, and they have a mammoth task in front of them as they are set to face the French champions. Former Liverpool assistant manager Pepijin Lijnders joined the club as head coach this summer, but could not produce the expected result as of now.

Die Roten Bullen have lost 4 out of their five UCL outings this season, as their only win came against Feyenoord in November. Salzburg also faced a distressing 0-5 thrashing against Bayern Leverkusen in their last Champions League appearance. Conceding 15 goals in 5 UCL matches so far, Salzburg are positioned 32nd with only 3 points by their name.

RB Salzburg are also struggling in the Austrian Bundesliga this season, as they are in the 5th position in the league table, having bagged 23 points in 15 matches. The team has managed to win only one win in their last five outings across all competitions; the game against Paris Saint-Germain can be a turning point in their tumultuous season.

Coach Pepijin Lijnders will have to exclude important players from the squad against PSG, such as Maurits Kjærgaard, Aleksa Terzic, Karim Konaté, Leandro Morgalla, and Kamil Piatkowski who are suffering from different injuries.

The qualification hopes for RB Salzburg are gradually fading away and they will surely step up to keep their chances alive before the last two games in the UCL group phase.

Paris Saint-Germain are on a 3-match winless streak across all competitions and are struggling to conjugate in the UCL this season. The team has accumulated only 4 points in 5 UCL matches and stands in the 25th position in the league table. The Parisian side has lost two back-to-back UCL matches against Atletico Madrid and Bayern Munich, and their time is running out to save their qualification hopes.

However, the tussles between coach Luis Enrique and players such as Donnarumma and Dembele have surely affected the environment of the team, but the French side will give their all to break their winless streak. PSG only managed to win one game in their UCL campaign this season, against Girona in the opening match-day. To keep their qualification hopes alive, PSG must win this game to stay in the knockout scenario.

Coach Luis Enrique will have to set the team roster without the services of Ousmane Dembele who is suspended for the game. Senny Mayulu, Lucas Hernández, and Presnel Kimpembe will miss the match due to different injuries.

The Parisian side will try their ultimate best to turn their season around from this point, and Luis Enrique will also find a way to dilute the mounting pressure on him.
