The official club statement is as follows:
"We are grateful to Erik for everything he has done during his time with us and wish him well for the future.
Ruud van Nistelrooy will take charge of the team as interim head coach, supported by the current coaching team, whilst a permanent head coach is recruited."
Erik Ten Hag's tenure at Manchester United
The Dutch manager was appointed as the head coach of Manchester United in April 2022 and he has won two trophies with the Red Devils, the Carabao Cup 2023 and the FA Cup 2024.
However, nothing could save Ten Hag from his dismissal from the hot seat due to the poor performance in this season's Premier League so far and the overall progress of the team. Manchester United also faced their worst start to a Premier League season in 35 years. The fans were also not happy with the boss at Manchester United.
Erik's sacking has come after a very disappointing opening of the Premier League 2024-25 campaign, losing 4 out of 9 matches and winning only 3. The Red Devils are currently in the 14th position of the PL table with 11 points earned so far.
Under Erik Ten Hag's managerial radar, Manchester United won 44 matches and faced 27 defeats in the Premier League. The Dutch also won the PL Manager of the Month award 3 times.
The inconsistent performance and the consistent disaster of Manchester United in the European competitions also led the fans and the officials at the club to check their patience from time to time. Now that Ten Hag is finally sacked, it seems that the new owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe, and the others do not want to waste time to find a new coach.
Ruud Van Nistelrooy will continue as the interim coach as of now and the club has already started to shortlist names of potential candidates to be the predecessor of Ten Hag as the new coach.
