Cameroon vs Serbia: Match Preview:
Both these sides opened their respective campaigns in Qatar with defeats in a competitive Group G, with the Indomitable Lions unlucky to be narrowly bested by Switzerland thanks to Yaounde-born Breel Embolo's goal shortly after half-time in Al-Wakrah.
Serbia, meanwhile, drew the short straw of having to begin against five-time winners and favourites Brazil, frustrating the star-studded Selecao for long periods before succumbing to a second-half Richarlison brace that included a terrific acrobatic volley.
Now they meet in a key showdown that will see the loser eliminated from contention for the last-16, with Brazil and Switzerland facing off in another important fixture later in the day.
Team News:
Cameroon:
Song was able to welcome Olivier Ntcham back to training ahead of Cameroon's match against Switzerland after the midfielder overcame some muscular discomfort.
With a fully fit squad at his disposal, Song overlooked Cameroon's captain and talismanic goalscorer Vincent Aboubakar for the opener, instead lining up with Bayern Munich's Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting through the middle. Given Aboubakar's anonymous 15-minute cameo, Choupo-Moting may retain his lofty spot in the pecking order.
Serbia:
Stojkovic bemoaned the fact that Serbia had "three key players injured" for their opening-game clash with Brazil. Serbia's entire 26-man contingent was part of the matchday squad but Aleksandar Mitrovic, Dusan Vlahovic and Filip Kostic were all carrying fitness concerns.
Mitrovic started against Brazil but Stojkovic stressed that he "came with a lot of problems to Qatar". Vlahovic was summoned from the bench for the final 25 minutes and Filip Kostic didn't feature at all. The Juventus wide man was sidelined with muscle fatigue and there is "a big question mark" surrounding his return date.
Cameroon vs Serbia: Head to Head:
This will be the second-ever meeting between the sides, with Serbia claiming a 4-3 friendly victory when the sides squared off in June 2010.
Since then, Serbia have faced an African side on just one occasion, which came in March 2018, when they claimed a 2-0 friendly win over Nigeria.
Cameroon are winless in their last five matches across all competitions, losing three and claiming two draws since a 1-0 victory over Burundi in the AFCON qualifiers.
