Eden Hazard announced his retirement from football after failing to find a new club following his Real Madrid departure. The announcement came through his social media handles and it was a pretty emotional one.
The 32-year-old lived his best years at Chelsea and was able to play 245 games for the club. He scored 85 goals and assisted his teammates for 61 times. He has won two Premier League titles, in 2015 and 2017 under Jose Mourinho and Antonio Conte. He has also won numerous individual accolades in that time period and it's fair to say that every Chelsea fan will have a special place in their heart for Hazard.
At Real Madrid he couldn't get going at all. When he left Chelsea he used to be compared to the very best of the game but in Spain he couldn't live upto the expectations. He was brought in to replace Ronaldo, which was a sensible decision at the time but unfortunately it didn't pan out well for the Belgian and the club.
For Real Madrid, he has played 54 matches and in those game he managed to score just 4 goals. Another reason for his downfall was his critical knee injury in the 2021-22 season. And unfortunately he never really recovered properly from it.
He did win multiple trophies at Madrid, including the league title and the Champions League but his contribution was very minimul in them.
In the 2018 World Cup, Hazard was one of the best players of the tournament. He helped Belgium finish third in the World Cup finals and has also won the silver ball. He was named Belgium player of the year, three years in a row from 2017 to 2019 and at that period he was one of the very best in Football.
Although Hazard's career didn't end like he would've hoped for, but he certainly left a mark in the Premier League with his dribbling prowess and the ability to win Chelsea games on his own. Having scored 126 goals in 459 professional games in total, Eden Hazard said goodbye to football.
