FMG Stadium Waikato Stadium will host Portugal vs Vietnam match on Thursday. Portugal Women and Vietnam Women will both look to get off the mark in the 2nd matchday of the Women's World Cup 2023. Portugal began their campaign with a 1-0 defeat to the Dutches, while Vietnam lost against the defending champions USA by 3-0. The Selecao produced a competitive performance but got defeated as Stefanie van der Gragt's first-half goal was enough for the Netherlands to clinch the victory. They will face the USA in their final group game and that would be a very very tough match. Portugal knows that they have to earn all three points against Vietnam to keep their knockout dreams alive.

Vietnam are also appearing at a Women's World Cup for the first time. They couldn't get the best start as they faced the four-time champions USA. The only positive they got was Tran Thi Kim Thanh's save of Alex Morgan's penalty. Despite the defeat, Mai Duc Chung's side would be pleased with the character they showed in the opening game.

FIFA Women's World Cup 2023: Portugal vs Vietnam | Team News

Portugal:

Carole Costa and Diana Gomes will line up in the centre of the Portugal defence. Carole Costa will win her 155th cap if she starts tomorrow. Ana Borges and Catarina Amado are set to feature as the two full-backs. Catarina Amado will continue over Joana Marchão at left-back. Portugal boss Francisco Neto has to keep faith with the forward pairing of Jessica Silva and Diana Silva. He'll hope the pair to score some goals on Thursday. 20-year-old striker Kika Nazareth came off the bench against the Netherlands but can start this time.

Vietnam:

As for Vietnam, Thu Thuong Luong Thi, Thi Dem My Le and Thu Tran Thi are all set to continue in central defence. Thu Thao Tran Thi and Loan Hoang Thi are hoping to retain their places as the two wing-backs. Van Su Ngan Thi was introduced at halftime against the USA, but the 22-year-old could be included in the starting lineup for Thursday's contest. Skipper Nhu Huynh will continue to lead the line, and she would like to score Vietnam's first goal at the World Cup. It will be a historical moment for her and the country.

Portugal vs Vietnam | Head-to-Head record

This will be the first meeting between Portugal and Vietnam. Vietnam have lost each of their last five games and conceded 14 goals without scoring in the last three. They have also not been involved in a draw in their last 28 games (11 losses). The positive about Portugal is they have conceded just two goals in their last seven games. Portugal have been solid at the back and if they found the net first against Vietnam, it would be very tough to find n equalizer.
