Harry Maguire's performances for England during the World Cup Qualifiers have brought much-needed joy to the Manchester United captain. As he became the top goal-scoring defender for England.

He faced heavy criticism for his poor performances for United in recent weeks. While overcoming a calf injury for the 4-2 defeat to old side Leicester City. Maguire displayed poor form during their 5-0 thrashing to Liverpool. And just a week later another 2-0 defeat to Manchester City in the most recent games before the international break.

He found his form for England, as he was on the score sheet in World Cup qualifying matches. Against their 5-0 win over Albania and a 10-0 win over San Marino. His goal against San Marino has pushed him ahead of John Terry in the all-time list of the goal-scoring defender in England. With Maguire now scoring seven times, one more than the Chelsea legend.

Manchester United Are Hopeful

Manchester United is hopeful that this boost in confidence will help Harry Maguire to perform better in their upcoming match against Watford.

However, his celebration against Albania has got the attention of Roy Keane. Who said: "I think he puts his hands to his ears like he's shut the critics up, but I think that's embarrassing,"

Maguire responded with: "It was a great ball from Reece (James)," Maguire said. We'd worked on it, we knew the areas we could exploit and credit to all the staff for doing that.

"I managed to direct the header into the far post and I think when you play these games, the first goal is crucial and it comes quite a lot from set-plays. We knew we'd get a lot of set-plays and we had to be clinical with them.

"The celebration was a knee slide, it just came naturally to me. It's an amazing feeling to score for my country."
