"I will not wait until summer" Joshua Kimmich plans to decide his future very soon
Bayern Munich Midfielder Joshua Kimmich has spoken up about his future, saying he will not wait until next summer to make the right decision whether he will stay with the German club or not.
In a recent media interaction, Joshua Kimmich, the 29-year-old midfielder of Bayern Munich revealed that he is planning to decide his future as soon as possible, as he will not wait until the summer transfer window of 2025 to finalize his decision. Kimmich has not made it clear whether he will stay at the German club or not, but his statement will surely make him one of the most sought-after players in the upcoming winter transfer window.
Joshua Kimmich's Statement
"I will not wait until summer,"
"I will sit down in winter and then try to see the bigger picture. And make the right decision."
Kimmich's contract situation with Bayern
Joshua Kimmich's contract with Bayern Munich will expire in June 2025, but there have been no reported talks with the club to pen down his contract extension until November. However, recent speculations in November 2024 suggested that Kimmich might stay at his current club, and he is on the verge of signing a new contract. Christoph Freund, the Sporting Director of Bayern has also spoken up regarding the matter in a press conference on December 2.
"We’re in good talks. Of course our wish would be to complete the deals as soon as possible. But the most important thing is that in the end there would be a positive result and that they extend. It doesn’t matter whether a week earlier or three weeks later. We are positive about both cases,
The German international did not reveal anything about the ongoing talks with the club, but he has not ruled out the possibility of moving to a new club in the January transfer window. Kimmich is one of the highest earners in the current Bayern squad, which may lead to different complications in renewing his contract. Bayern officials are not willing to release Kimmich on a free transfer and a contract extension cannot be considered off the cards.
Previous links with different clubs
Previously, Kimmich has been heavily linked up with FC Barcelona to be the potential replacement for Dutch midfielder Frenkie De Jong. However, Barcelona could not afford the transfer fees asked by Bayern to sell the German midfielder. However, Kimmich did not rule out the possibility of playing for the Catalan club and Barcelona will again try to pursue their target to sign the player who will be a free agent on 1 July 2025. Barcelona can be confident as they have appointed Hansi Flick as the head coach last summer, who also coached Kimmich during his Bayern tenure.
However, Paris Saint-Germain has been monitoring Kimmich's situation as well, and they have reportedly joined the race to secure his services. On the other hand, another Spanish giant Real Madrid has reportedly joined the race to get his signing. According to reports by SkySports Germany in November 2024, Real Madrid is eyeing Joshua Kimmich as a potential replacement for French youngster Aurelin Tchouameni. If Kimmich does not renew his contract with the Bavarians, the transfer window will surely witness a long-going tussle between clubs to sign the player on a free transfer.
FC Bayern Munich are the most successful team in Bundesliga history with 34 German Championship titles. Here are the teams with most Bundesliga titles.
The Bundesliga is the top-division tournament in German football. The competition was founded in 1962, and the first season began in 1963. The Bundesliga replaced the German national championship, which was the first tournament in German football history. And since then only one club has dominated with most Bundesliga titles.
The German national championship, which was founded in 1903 and ran for 60 years, was a knockout competition contested between winners of each of the country's top regional leagues.
The founding member teams of the Bundesliga are 1860 Munich, Cologne, Borussia Dortmund, Eintracht Braunschweig, Eintracht Frankfurt, Hamburg, Hertha Berlin, Kaiserslautern, Karlsruhe, Preußen Münster, MSV Duisburg, Nuremberg, Saarbrücken, Schalke, Vfb Stuttgart and Werder Bremen.
Bayer Leverkusen became the 13th team to win the Bundesliga title in the 2023-24 season.
Besides the Bundesliga, which operated in West Germany, the DDR-Oberliga was the top-level football league in Soviet-controlled East Germany. Following the reunification of Germany, the Bundesliga became the national league of the country.
The Bundesliga started as a 16-team tournament but would soon expand to 18 teams from 1965.
In a one-off event, the league played the 1991-92 season with 20 teams following the reunification, but would return to its 18-team format in the following campaign.
There have been 13 different winners of the Bundesliga since its inception in 1963.
FC Koln, or FC Cologne in English, won the first-ever Bundesliga season in 1963-64. The Billy Goats maintained a six-point advantage over second-placed Meidericher SV (39) and scored in each of the 30 league games played in the inaugural edition.
Karl-Heinz Thielen (16 goals) and Christian Müller (15 goals) finished as the top scorers for the team in the championship-winning season.
Who has won the most Bundesliga titles?
Bayern Munich lead the Bundesliga winners list with 34 titles. The Bavarians won their maiden Meisterschale in the 1968-69 season, with an eight-point cushion and legendary forward Gerd Muller contributing 30 goals. They are the most dominant German team and have won the most Bundesliga titles.
The Bavarians recently claimed the Bundesliga 2024-25 title with two games to go in the season. In doing so, Bayern have now won the German championship a record 12 times in the last 13 seasons. Their incredible run began in 2012-13 under the management of Jupp Heynckes, which was broken in the 2023-24 season by Bayer Leverkusen.
Top Five Teams with the Most Bundesliga titles till 2023
1. Bayern Munich - 34 titles
Bayern Munich have won 34 Bundesliga titles | Image: Bundesliga
Bayern Munich are at the top of the list as they are the all-time Bundesliga title winners with 34 titles to their name. They won the 2024-25 season with two games to go in the season.
Bayern Munich also holds the record for most second-place finishes in the top German league, having done that ten times between 1969 and 2012.
There is no doubt that they are the most dominant force in Germany and one of the most historic clubs in the history of World Football. The Bavarians have also won 20 DFB-Pokal trophies and 6 Champions League titles.
Borussia Dortmund have won five Bundesliga titles | Image: X
Borussia Dortmund, a 113-year-old German club, is second on the list of clubs with the most Bundesliga titles.
After Bayern Munich, Borussia Dortmund have won the most Bundesliga titles and have also finished second the most times in the German league.
In the pre-Bundesliga days, ‘die Schwarzgelben’ lifted three league titles – two more than Bayern.
There has always been a soft spot for Dortmund in every football fan's heart, except the fans of Bayern.
In the 2022-23 season, they were the favourites to win the titles but bottled it on the last day. Dortmund won their last Bundesliga title under Jurgen Klopp in the 2011-12 season.
Titles by years: 1994–1995; 1995–1996; 2001–2002; 2010–11; and 2011–12
3. Borussia Monchengladbach - 5 Titles
Borussia Monchengladbach have won 5 Bundesliga titles | Image: Bundesliga
Borussia Mönchengladbach holds the third place on the list, and they have won the same number of Bundesliga titles as Borussia Dortmund.
They have finished second less as compared to Dortmund, and that's the reason why they are placed third.
Three of their five Bundesliga championships were consecutive. They won their last league title in the 1976-77 season under Udo Lattek. Monchengladbach have only ever been demoted to the Bundesliga 2 twice, in 1999 and 2007.
Titles by years: 1969–70, 1970–71, 1974–75, 1975–76, and 1976–77

HSV have won three Bundesliga titles | Image: X
Hamburger SV comes fifth in this list with 3 Bundesliga titles to their name.
Their last league title came in the 1982-83 season under Ernst Happel, who won his second title with the club.
HSV have the record in German football of having won the most regional titles, having won 31 regional titles. But the regional titles do not count as a trophy or even as a title itself.
Until the 2017–18 season, HSV were the only club to have played continuously in the Bundesliga since its foundation.
Last season, Real Madrid went on to win the UEFA Champions League for a record 15th time. As we inch closer to this season's final, we take a look at the Champions League winners list since 1956.
The Champions League was earlier called the European Cup, and it started in 1955, and the first winner was Real Madrid. For the next 5 years, Real Madrid did not let anyone get close to the trophy.
Since then, 23 teams have won the glory, with Manchester City being the most recent one. As we get close to another UEFA Champions League final, we take a look at the Champions League winners list since 1965.

UEFA Champions League 2024-25 Quarter-final Second Leg Round Up: Arsenal eliminate Real Madrid; Barcelona, Inter, PSG through

Aston Villa came back from trailing to beat Paris Saint-Germain 3-2 at home, whereas Dortmund defeated Barcelona 3-1, but both sides were knocked out on aggregate.
Arsenal kept their UCL unbeaten streak against Real Madrid intact, beating them 2-1 in the second leg, advancing to the semis. Inter Milan also shared the spoils with Bayern Munich in a 2-2 draw, but sealed their passage to the semi-finals.

Aston Villa 3-2 Paris Saint-Germain (AGG 4-5)
Playing at their home, Villa Park, Aston Villa did not get off to a good start, letting in two goals in 30 minutes, through the PSG full-backs Achraf Hakimi and Nuno Mendes.
Paris Saint-Germain dominated the first half, despite ending it at 2–1 as Youri Tielemans pulled one back. The second half, though, was a Villa fairy tale, netting two more goals from McGinn and Konsa and hunting for the third. Marco Asensio, late on the field, promptly made his mark, nearly scoring against his parent club.
The Guirassy hat-trick could not keep this mercurial Borussia Dortmund side out. Even though FC Barcelona seemed all at sea, making mistake after mistake that we did not witness in last week's match, they were still able to keep them at bay.
They did not really begin to play like their own team until Pedri came onto the field in the later stages. Other notable players in this game were De Jong holding in the midfield and Szczesny playing like he’s in his prime. However, a Bensebaini own goal kept Barca on a two-goal cushion to safely guide them through to the semis.
"Remontada," a term that was heard being uttered repeatedly again and again with this Real Madrid team, mostly from Bellingham. However, Arsenal crushed their dream of a magical comeback with a 2-1 victory in the return leg at Bernabeu.
Arsenal performed fantastically, and Arteta is worthy of all the accolades for the display set out away at the Bernabéu. Rice performed masterfully; he was all over the pitch, marking every pass; no one was penetrating him.
Ninety long minutes at the Bernabeu, and we heard you all game long.
Bukayo Saka failed to convert an early penalty due to a marvellous save from Courtois. However, he redeemed himself with the opening goal in the 65th minute, but it was canceled out after Vinicius scored the equalizer only two minutes later.
Gabriel Martinelli netted the winner in injury time, leading Arsenal to another win against Real Madrid and keeping their unbeaten record against Los Blancos in the UCL intact.
Bayern Munich played pretty much the majority of the second leg on the back foot, but Inter Milan held them to a chilling 2-2 draw at home. Lautaro Martinez had enough opportunities, showed some lovely dibbles, and obviously scored; all of these earned him the man of the match award.
Kane did everything in his power, but it was just not good enough, and it's disappointing to see this Bayern side leave, particularly because it's Müller's final Champions League campaign with the side.
It was Kane who opened the scoring, but two back-to-back strikes from Lautaro and Pavard put Inter at the top again. Eric Dier scored the equalizer from a tough angle, but the Bavarians failed to score another to equalize the tie — better to say, Inter Milan defended masterfully!

Ultimately, Pavard’s header against his old club is what separates the sides overall, and it’s the Italian side who will face Barcelona in the last four.

Longevity!
Thomas Müller starts tonight and extends his record as the player with the most Champions League appearances for one single club. 👀
Starting XI: Jonas Urbig (GK); Konrad Laimer, Eric Dier, Kim Min-Jae, Josip Stanišić; Joshua Kimmich, Leon Goretzka; Micheal Olise, Thomas Muller (C), Leroy Sane; Harry Kane
Bayern will be without Jamal Musiala for the rest of the season, which opens the door for Raphael Guerreiro to potentially start as the number 10 again after his impressive performance off the bench against Dortmund. Although Thomas Müller scored after being introduced from the bench last week, Guerreiro's contribution may earn him a starting spot.
Young goalkeeper Jonas Urbig will start again as Manuel Neuer's return date has been pushed back to the end of April at the earliest. The team is also facing a number of absentees in defense, with Alphonso Davies, Dayot Upamecano, and Hiroki Ito all sidelined due to injury.
Serge Gnabry is putting pressure on Leroy Sané for a starting position after scoring off the bench in the recent draw against Dortmund. However, it is likely that coach Vincent Kompany will stick with Sané in this match, especially with Kingsley Coman also available for selection.

Team News | Inter Milan
Inzaghi made minor rotations to his Inter team over the weekend, allowing players like Marcus Thuram, Alessandro Bastoni, and Henrikh Mkhitaryan to rest in preparation for the second leg.
Mehdi Taremi has returned from a muscle injury and was on the bench for the match against Cagliari, while Kristjan Asllani will also be available again after serving a European suspension. However, both are expected to start as substitutes.
Piotr Zielinski and Denzel Dumfries remain sidelined due to injuries. Additionally, Inzaghi faces a decision at left wing-back, as Federico Dimarco has regained full fitness, but Carlos Augusto is currently playing exceptionally well.
