India vs Malaysia Friendly: Here are everything you need to know-sportzpoint.com

India is yet to win a match under new head coach Manolo Marquez since his appointment in July 2024. India suffered a goalless draw against Mauritius in the Intercontinental Cup 2024, which was the Spaniard's debut game in charge; and the Blue Tigers lost their second match by 0-3 against Syria. During the last international break in October, India was held to a 1-1 against Vietnam in a friendly.

However, Manolo Marquez has dropped some familiar faces and assembled a comparatively younger squad for the friendly against Malaysia. Promising talents such as Vibin Mohanan, Jithin MS, and Irfan Yadwad have been called up for the match. Thoiba Singh also received his maiden call-up for the national team replacing the injured Anirudh Thapa.

This friendly will be a very crucial momentum for the Indian team as India will directly go on to play the AFC Asian Cup Qualifiers in the next international break in March 2025

Malaysia defeated India by 4-2 last year in the Merdeka Cup semi-final under the former coach Kim Pan-Gon, but Harimau Malaya are also facing a rebuild under new coach Pau Marti who was appointed in July 2024.

Manolo Marquez knew Pau Marti from their times in Barcelona, and he stated about his fellow Spaniard:

"Pau Martí is from my city. He's also Catalan. He was working in the Barcelona B team as the assistant coach. He has got experience abroad in Hong Kong, and was the assistant coach of Malaysia under the South Korean coach (Kim Pan-gon). They have been playing good football and it will be a tough game for both sides,"

14 of Malaysia's 26 members were in the squad against India last year, including Arif Arman and Dion Cools, both of whom scored against India in the last game.

However, Malaysia is in fine form under the Spaniard coach with 3 wins and 1 defeat in 4 matches. They are coming to face India following a 3-1 victory over Laos on 14 November 2024. Their only defeat under Marti came against New Zealand in October when they faced a 0-4 thrashing.
