Azmoun To AS Roma
Roma is said to be signing Bayer Leverkusen player, Sardar Azmoun in a surprise transfer after deal with Duvan Zapata collapsed earlier this week. It has already received the "here we go" from Fabrizio Romano as both the clubs and players' club have reached verbal agreement.
The deal which has been reached is a loan move with an option to buy the player by AS Roma. The buy clause is of €12m and it's not even mandatory to activate, so it's a great piece of business by the Italian club.
Another Italian club, AC Milan was also in the race to sign the player but it looks like Jose Mourinho's phone call was enough to convince the forward to come to the capital city of Italy. Fulham also showed some interest in the forward in the final hours of his transfer but failed to change the player's mind.
At the moment Azmoun is injured for a short term so he would be able to join AS Roma in the first week of September. The more concerning situation for AS Roma will be when the striker gets called up by the Iranian National Team for the 2023 AFC Asian Cup, which happens to be taking place between January and February.
Other AS Roma news
As opposed to the rumored Zapata deal, which Atalanta reportedly was finally going to accept this morning until Pinto decided to sign Azmoun, bringing in Azmoun on an inexpensive loan with an option likely leaves the door open for Roma to push hard for a January signing of Marcos Leonardo. A loan signing also makes Roma's depth chart at striker seem slightly more manageable if Marcos Leonardo is signed, Belotti rediscovers his form, and Tammy Abraham returns from injury as reported in the Italian Transfer News.
