Jordi Alba set to leave the club alongside Sergio Busquets
Earlier, Sergio Busquets decided to leave the club at the end of the season. Now Jordi Alba is moving in the same direction. There have been talks of a mutual termination of his contract or even a possible salary reduction for a while now.
The 34-year-old had always maintained that he would like to see out his contract at Barça and had previously hinted that he would even be open to helping out the club financially by taking a pay cut.
It seems like the club and the player have decided to part ways. It was the player who decided to move away. The veteran full-back is also set to waive a large portion of the salary that is owed to him by the club. A product of Barcelona's La Masia academy, Alba left the club at a young age before returning in 2012 after playing at Cornelia and Valencia.
A New Era in Barcelona's History
He has been pretty much an undisputed starter at left-back for a good part of the last decade. He has made over 450 appearances for the club and won six La Liga titles and one UEFA Champions League trophy. This can be saddening for the fans and the club but this is the right time to move on. Barcelona have started to rebuild their structure from the last season. Laporta even appointed the Club legend Xavi as the manager. Xavi has been exceptional so far but still, he has to learn a few things. Barcelona clinched the La Liga 2022-23 title and that's a positive way to start a new chapter.
