Not number 10; Kylian Mbappe to wear this jersey no in Real Madrid
As Kylian Mbappe signs a five-year deal with Real Madrid, there were rumours that he would take away Luka Modric's iconic No.10 jersey. Here is the jersey number Mbappe decided to wear at Real Madrid.
Kylian Mbappe just signed a five-year contract with Real Madrid and will be unveiled as a Real Madrid player right after the UEFA Euro 2024. The 25-year-old French striker will be joining the 15-time Champions League winners in a free transfer.
Mbappe joined French team PSG from Monaco in the 2017-18 season as a teenage sensation and then went on to win 6 Ligue 1 titles with them. However, his dream to win the UEFA Champions League along with the Ballon d'Or remained a dream for Kylian Mbappe.
After speculations and rumours in nearly every year, Mbappe had signed a verbal deal with the Los Blancos in February this year. After PSG's failure in the Champions League 2024, the 2018 FIFA World Cup winner announced that it would be his last year at PSG.
Since then, it was only about time when Mbappe signed his deal with Real Madrid. As the deal finally got finalised, there were rumours of which jersey no, Mbappe would wear at Real Madrid.
Normally, the striker wears No. 10 for France and used to wear the same number during his days with PSG and Monaco. But, with Luka Modric extending his contract, it was in question if he would snatch the No. 10 jersey from the Croatian.
But, as it seems, to pay respect to the six-time UEFA Champions League winner, Real Madrid team management and Kylian Mbappe did not even discuss about the No. 10 jersey with Modric.
As per journalist Fabrizio Romano, Mbappe would wear the iconic No. 9 jersey of Karim Benzema. Since Mbappe is currently with the French team and Real Madrid wanted him to focus on his national duties, the 25-year-old will be showcased as the new No.9 of Real Madrid at Santiago Bernabeu after the Euro 2024, where he will be looking for his first Euro with the national team.
