Arsenal & Manchester City are the two clubs who are going to fight for the title if there aren't any miracles happening. Mikel Arteta is a former student of Pep Guardiola whom he idolizes the most as a manager. Arsenal has suffered since Arsene Wenger left the club in 2018. On the other hand, Manchester City has won 4 Premier League titles under Pep Guardiola already. Arsenal is on a great run in the league this season as they have lost only 1 game against Manchester United. Man City on the other side lost 3 matches & after playing 20 matches they are in the second spot with 45 points. The Gunners are on the top with 50 points in 19 games.
Arsenal:
Arsenal 2022-23 Image - Premier League
The Gunners rely on their build-up play, from Ramsdale to Jesus it's about keeping the ball & passing toward the very end moment. sign of Pep right? Arteta has learned a lot from Pep Guardiola during his tenure at City. Arsenal's heart is their Skipper, Martin Odegard. He controls the midfield of the gunners. Odegard has contributed with 8 goals & 5 assists till now. The best things about Odegard are his long-range screamers & vision for key passes.
Martin Odegard Image - Premier League
In the attack, they have Martinelli, Jesus & Saka. Bukayo Saka has been exceptional for both Arsenal & his Country. He has contributed with 7 goals & 7 assists. Martinelli has scored 7 goals & gave 2 assists. Jesus joined Arsenal in the Summer Transfer window from Man City. He has impressed the Gunners with his consistent performance. Jesus has scored 5 goals & contributed with 5 assists.
Sir Alex Ferguson once said, " Attack wins you games, defence wins you titles". Saliba & Gabriel has been there being a wall for Arsenal, as they have conceded only 16 goals till now. Zinchenko has been also brilliant for Arsenal. He increases numbers in the midfield during attack & drops during defending. Arsenal signed Zinchenko in the 2022 summer transfer window.
The team is incomplete without the ultimate shot-stopper Ramsdale. Arsenal decided to sign him, and that has proved to be the right decision. Ramsdale has been absolutely incredible and he is the best goalkeeper in Premier Lague at the moment.
Pep Guardiola likes possession play. Every football fans know Guardiola is doing that for a long time since his tenure at Barcelona. Till last season Man City played false 9 and yet they have won 4 premier league titles. This season, they got Haaland & he is scoring goals for fun. City are the highest goal-scoring team in the premier league till now.
Erling Haaland Image - Premier League
Erling Braut Haaland if not the, at least one of the best strikers in the world right now. He has scored 25 goals already this season while playing only 19 games. He has already smashed 4 hattricks in his very first season.
Kevin de Bruyne Image - Manchester City
Everyone knows how much Pep loves his midfielders. There is no doubt, Kevin de Bruyne is the best attacking midfielder in the Premier League for Man City. Kdb has been the most inspirational & important player for his team. He has scored 3 goals & gave 11 assists till now in the pl this season. It's not the best season for him, he has been average in terms of scoring but he is always influential on the pitch & mainly he is a Leader.
Phil Foden & Riyad Mahrez Image - Premier League
Pep Guardiola just loves Phil Foden. He uses him in the wings, and also in midfield whenever the situation demands. Pep Guardiola also said, " Foden is the most exciting player for him after Lionel Messi". Foden has scored 7 goals & gave 3 assists till now. On the other hand, Mahrez is having an average season with 4 goals & 3 assists although he hasn't started every game.
Man City has conceded 20 goals till now this season in Premier League. Akanji has been great for City but the rest has been struggling this season. Ruben Dias is not having a great season, same goes for Joao Cancelo. Man City is looking vulnerable in terms of defending. In recent matches, City has dropped points. They haven't met Arsenal yet this season. This will be interesting when The Teacher & Student will meet face to face for the title.
Premier League 2022-23 European Spots Contenders:
Newcastle United:
Newcastle United Image - Premier League
After the change of ownership, Newcastle united is on fire. They haven't spent roughly in the transfer window. Newcastle brought players depending on their Manager's system. They have conceded only 11 goals in the league, thanks to Botman, Schar & Pope. Trippier is one of the most important players for Eddie Howe. Isak's injuries might be thoughtful for Newcastle but Almiron, Joelington & Saint-maximin have been brilliant for them. Newcastle has a brilliant chance to finish inside the top 4 after 2002-23.
Manchester United:
Manchester United Image - Premier League
Many football pundits doubted Eric Tenhag when they lost their first two games against Brighton & Brentford. Eth brought Casemiro, Antony & Lisandro Martinez to compete for the top 4. Manchester United beat Liverpool, played a draw away against Chelsea. Still, many pundits said, this is just a fluke. Eth shut everyone down by winning consistently. Manchester City thrashed them by 6-3 but the improvements were being seen by the fans. Rashford who has been struggling in the last season, looking scary right now. Shaw, Wan-bissaka & Bruno improved a lot under Tenhag. They beat Arsenal who was looking unbeatable, then took revenge against City and the show is going on. United needs to sign some players for bench depth to compete against the likes of Chelsea & Liverpool. United is sitting on the 4th Position of the table with 39 points right now.
Chelsea:
Chelsea Image - Premier League
Chelsea is not in a good form right now as they are struggling with the injuries of their key players. Graham Potter still needs time for competing against the rest. The positive thing is, Chelsea is signing players to strengthen the squad. There are still 18 games left for Chelsea. They have the qualities to improve and compete for the top 6. Chelsea has to work on their attacks. The final outcome is not coming but after the signings, things can go either way for Chelsea. Finishing in the top 4 is looking unrealistic for them but they might finish in the top 6 if they start to improve under Graham Potter.
Tottenham Hotspur:
Tottenham Hotspur Image - Premier League
After a great Summer Transfer window, everyone thought this season might be different for the Spurs but they are struggling once again. Son is looking average, the midfield is looking disjointed. Harry Kane has scored goals but still, they have to improve for competing. They are not the favorites for the Top 6 Spots right now but they have the bench strength and when one team is competing deep down till the last for European spots, bench strength is required. Son has to up his game and midfield has to work like the system demands.

While the Ivorian found the net just 10 times in 48 games for the Hammers, he experienced a career revival at Ajax, netting an impressive 32 times in 50 games. Sebastian Haller made his Champions League debut in the 2021-22 season, scoring in his first seven games in the competition, including four in his debut against Ruben Amorim’s Sporting. Haller scored just one more UEFA Champions League goal and was given just 10 minutes in the German side’s 2024 final defeat to Real Madrid.
9. Rabah Madjer | Algeria | 12 Goals:

Madjer is considered one of the best players in the history of Algerian football and shot to renown as a Porto player in the 1980s. He scored six goals on Porto’s first UEFA Champions League winning run, including the equalizer against Bayern Munich in the final at the Ernst-Happel-Stadion. Madjer retired in 1992 and twice managed his home country, having played in their first ever World Cup in 1982.
8. Vincent Aboubakar | 14 Goals | Cameroon:
Aboubakar made his UEFA Champions League debut in 2014 with Porto, scoring a goal in a 6-0 thrashing of BATE Borisov. He came back with a goal in the return fixture at home to Shakhtar and scored his first knockout goal against Basel but was an unused substitute in both quarter-final legs against Bayern Munich, including the 6-1 defeat that sent Porto out.
In the next two seasons, one spent at Porto and the other at Besiktas, Aboubakar netted six times but failed to get out of the group stage. He scored his final Champions League goals in 2017 with a brace against Monaco but was injured for the last 16 tie against Liverpool, a 5-0 defeat at the Estádio do Dragao.
7. Seydou Doumbia | 15 Goals | Ivory Coast:
Doumbia scored 15 UEFA Champions League goals in 31 games for three different clubs in his career. He moved to Basel in 2016, scoring just once in six games before ending his European run at Sporting in the 2017-18 season. He made his debut with CSKA Moscow, scoring five times in the 2011-12 season, but never hit that height again.
6. Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang | Gabon | 17 Goals:
Aubameyang primarily scored his goals with Dortmund, he managed just two for Chelsea, but Gabon’s all-time top scorer never made it past the UEFA Champions League quarter finals having twice exited at that stage in 2014 and 2017. Aubameyang is, however, the all-time top goal scorer in Europa League history, netting 34 times in 62 games.
5. Riyad Mahrez | Algeria | 20 Goals:
Riyad Mahrez kicked things off with two goals in Leicester’s opening group match against Brugge before finding the net two more times ahead of the knockouts. He played every minute of Leicester’s knockout run but could only manage a single assist in that time.
In the 2020-21 season, Mahrez was a crucial player on Manchester City’s run, scoring in the quarters before three goals against PSG in the UEFA Champions League semi-finals. However, he could not find the net as City lost 1-0 to Chelsea in the final. By the time of the 2023 win, Mahrez had fallen down the City pecking order and stayed on the bench for the whole of the 1-0 win against Inter.
4. Sadio Mane | Senegal | 27 Goals:
The 2019 and 2022 African Player of the Year Mane was a talisman in Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool rebuild. Joining in 2016, Mane along with Salah and Roberto Firmino combined to be a lethal front three with the Senegalese player scoring 10 goals in the 17-18 UEFA Champions League season, a figure only beaten by his team-mates and Cristiano Ronaldo. Moving to Bayern Munich in 2022, Mane struggled to replicate his Liverpool form but still scored three goals in the group stages before departing for Al-Nassr in 2023.
3. Samuel Eto'o | Cameroon | 30 Goals:
The four-time African player of the year winner, a figure only matched by Yaya Toure, scored most of his UEFA Champions League goals for Barcelona including six in their 2005-06 triumph and four in the 2008-09 win under Pep Guardiola. Moving to Inter in 2009, Eto’o became the fourth player in history to win back-to-back Champions Leagues at different clubs and played every game in the Jose Mourinho-masterminded run. Still considered by many to be the best African player of all-time, Samuel Eto’o was a deadly mix of pace and clinical finishing.
2. Didier Drogba | Ivory Coast | 44 Goals:
With 10 goals in 10 finals, the Ivorian was the man for the big occasion, and he made his UEFA Champions League debut with Marseille in 2003, scoring five goals in six games. Getting his move to Chelsea the following season, Drogba hit the same number in the 2004-05 campaign but managed just one goal in seven appearances the next year.
He scored twice in the 2008 semi-final to set up a clash against rivals Manchester United, but a John Terry slip in a rain-soaked Moscow denied Chelsea their first UEFA Champions League title. But that success would come in 2012 with Drogba playing a starring role in the final.
1. Mohamed Salah | Egypt | 50 Goals:
Considering he scored just three goals in his first 15 UEFA Champions League appearances, betting on Mohamed Salah to one day become the leading African goal-scorer would have seemed a waste of money back in 2016. Famously a second choice of Klopp – the German preferred Julian Brandt – Salah hit 10 goals in his first UEFA Champions League season at Anfield, propelling Liverpool to their first final since 2007 but an early injury caused by Sergio Ramos forced him to the sideline as Real Madrid won 3-1 in Kyiv.

Club Brugge had a lot of things to do away from home and they were already running behind the game when Kyriani Sabbe received the direct card in the 17th minute of the game.
However, Villa were not able to take advantage of that until Unai Emery made the substitution in the second half.
Marco Asensio came and made it look easy to score two goals while Ian Maatsen scored one to hand Aston Villa a 3-0 lead which was enough for them to reach the quarter-finals for the first time since the 1982/83 season.
Villa now have become the 9th Premier League team to reach the quarter-finals of the Champions League era.
They will face Unai Emery and Marco Asensio's former club PSG in the quarter-finals.
