Real Madrid Femenino vs Barcelona Femeni at Camp Now on Wednesday created a new world record for attendance at a women's football game. More than 91,000 fans watched the game live as the home side defeated Madrid 5-2.

The previous record for a women's game was 90,185 at the Rose Bowl in California for the 1999 FIFA World Cup final between the United States and China.

Non-members were first given the opportunity to claim seats for free, while club members were charged 9 euros (£7.50). Only a limited number of tickets left after 70,000 were snatched up in a matter of days when they went on sale in January.

In a Spanish La Liga Femenino match between Atletico Madrid and Barcelona at the Wanda Metropolitano Stadium in 2019, the previous club record of 60,739 was set.

According to some sources, 1,10,000 spectators watched Denmark beat Mexico in the 1971 Women's World Cup final at the Azteca Stadium in Mexico City. That competition, however, was not officially sanctioned.

"I don't have the words to describe it," Ballon d'Or winner Alexia Putellas said. "It was super magical. The game ended and the fans didn't want to leave. It was incredible.

"Putellas was on the scoresheet at the Camp Nou as Barcelona advanced to the semifinals 8-3 on aggregate after winning the first leg 3-1 in Madrid last week. The team will face either Arsenal or Wolfsburg in the semifinals.
