Dragan Stojković's Serbia are all set to face Gareth Southgate's England in the group-stage match of the UEFA Euro 2024 at the Veltins-Arena, Schalke in Germany on 17th June, Monday. Two-time runners-up of the European Championships in 1960 and 1968 during their Yugoslavia days, Serbia are making its debut, having never before qualified for the Euros as an independent nation. The Eagles accumulated 14 points in the qualifiers to reach Germany for the 2024 edition of the World Cup.

Serbia have won only two of their last six international games heading into the Euros. They have only managed to secure four wins from the last eight qualifying games.

The Serbian boss will most likely start Mitrovic up front with Tadic and Sergej Milinkovic-Savic. Sergej will play as an attacking midfielder or false nine. Dragan Stojkovic will play with a back three of Nikola Milenkovic, Milos Veljkovic, and Strahinja Pavlovic in front of Vanja Milinkovic-Savic.

Nemanja Gudelj and Sasa Lukic are the best placed to hold the midfield together for Serbia, with Filip Kostic and Andrija Zivkovic in the wing-back roles. Juventus striker Dusan Vlahovic is not likely to star the game but come out in the second half as a proper replacement of Mitrovic.

England

England will play Serbia for the first time since Euro 2004. They have managed to win only one of their last 5 international games. Southgate would want to start his best XI but it is not going to be easy for him. He has been criticized for his selections so he will hope to start the campaign with a victory over Serbia.

John Stones has recovered from illness and is now training. Luke Shaw is not 100% so Kieran Trippier will start on left. Pickford will start in goal with Walker on the right. Jude Bellingham, Rice, and Trent are expected to take the responsibility in midfield. Bukayo Saka will operate on the right wing and Phil Foden on the left with Harry Kane up front.

Southgate has options in the midfield but the defence is not giving confidence. He has too many strike options too. Pickford is not up to his best anymore but Ramsdale hasn't got much playtime for Arsenal this season. Kobe Mainoo has had a great season with Manchester United so Southgate might fancy him in the second half.
