A night of pure drama at the Metropolitano ended with Real Madrid emerging victorious from the penalty shootout after Atletico Madrid’s early blitz set the stage for an unforgettable battle.

Conor Gallagher shocked the visitors with a goal just 30 seconds in, catching Real cold and sending the home crowd into a frenzy. Atletico pressed high and dominated the first half, suffocating Ancelotti’s side and refusing to let them settle.

Real grew into the game after the break, with Vinicius Jr and Bellingham pushing forward, but Jan Oblak stood tall, denying several key chances. Atletico, too, had their moments to seal it, Griezmann’s curling effort came agonizingly close, but neither could put the tie to bed.

Extra time was a war of attrition, both sides running on fumes. Real nearly snatched it late, with Rodrygo striking the post, but penalties became inevitable.

In the shootout, nerves ran high. Real Madrid’s resilience shone through — Rüdiger, Mbappé, Valverde, and Bellingham converted with ice in their veins. Atletico faltered, with Álvarez and Llorente missing their crucial spot-kicks, while Lucas Vázquez uncharacteristically blasted his over for Real.

In the end, it was another classic European night for Los Blancos — battered, bruised, but never beaten. Atletico, brave and brilliant for large spells, are left heartbroken, knowing they were inches from glory.

Club Brugge had a lot of things to do away from home and they were already running behind the game when Kyriani Sabbe received the direct card in the 17th minute of the game.

However, Villa were not able to take advantage of that until Unai Emery made the substitution in the second half. 

Marco Asensio came and made it look easy to score two goals while Ian Maatsen scored one to hand Aston Villa a 3-0 lead which was enough for them to reach the quarter-finals for the first time since the 1982/83 season.

Villa now have become the 9th Premier League team to reach the quarter-finals of the Champions League era.

He has dropped a bit low to fill in the void made by Sabbe. Still, he has managed to make good runs and create some chances. 

Ordóñez was sharp to go around Waltkins to stop him from making the final move inside the box. 

Tzolis, Onyedika and De Cuyper have been solid for Brugge so far. The trio have been able to thread the ball inside the final third and also send some quality cross across the ground. 

Tielemans takes the free-kick and gets it over the the false wall. 

But, Mignolet was ready for the challenge and make the save. 

A direct red card for Sabbe. 

A long ball from Martinez for Rashford and Sabbe, who could not stop Rashford with his pace, brought the English striker down.

Bright opening 10 minutes from the boys from Belgium. 

De Cuyper with a cut back from the left and Onyedika had a go at the goal with a powerful shot. 

But, Konsa came between to block the shot. 

Good start from the visitors here. 

A good cross from the left by De Cuyper, and Vanaken had the chance to find the net with a header. 

His header went left to the post. 

The first shot of the game comes from the visitors. 

A mistake from Matty Cash allowed Sabbe to go for the goal with a left-footed shot from outside the box.

He missed the target though.

Bailey scored early, but Club Brugge quickly equalised through De Cuyper. Mechele scored an own goal while Asensio scored from the penalty spot to hand Aston Villa a 3-1 win in the first leg.

Julian Brandt almost sealed the advancement for Dortmund with a low strike from inside the box while advancing upwards on the left, but Meuneir made a great tackle to dispossess him off the ball.

However, Brandt was flagged for being in an offside position.

Another masterful cross from Ryerson on the left, which was well-connected by Beier inside the box, but it sailed off target!

That was a blissful build-up from the visiting side, as Ryerson slid a grounded pass into the box, which was met by Adeyemi with a first-time strike, but the ball hit the woodwork!

Haraladsson unleashed a fierce long-ranger that almost entered the goal, but Kobel strongly punched it over the crossbar!

Ryerson had options in both flanks but decided to take an ambitious effort, but his long-ranger from a distance sailed way over the crossbar!

Emre Can has calmly done the job, slotting it home with a powerful shot through the middle of the goal, forcing Chevalier to jump to his left!

Dortmund are back in this tie!

Guirassy was carrying the ball as he entered the box all alone, but Meunier pushed him down from behind inside the box!

Meunier is shown a yellow and referee Sandro Schärer awards the visitors a penalty!

Adeyemi found some space on the right, advanced, and passed it to Guirassy, who was in the middle of the box. He took a strike but Lille's defence made a crucial block.

A dangerous cross whipped in from Beier, which was met by the Gross, who made a trigger run into the box. However, his powerful header had too much force behind it, brushing the top of the crossbar and going over. 

Emre Can tested his luck with a header following a corner, but his header sailed over the crossbae!

Mukau made a brilliant turn on the right to ease past Ryerson, but failed to make a proper cross, giving Dortmund opportunity to solidify inside the box.

A corner is played short before eventually finding Haraldsson on the byline again, who clips a lovely cross into the area for Andre, but his header misses the target by inches!

Anton receives the first booking of the game for a full body challenge on Ismaily. 

Cabella found some space on the right and attempted to make a cutback for a Lille player. However, Gross intercepted the pass, but only directed it towards Andre.

Andre then took a shot from the edge of the area, but his execution was poor, and he missed the target.

Following a long floating free-kick, Schlotterbeck powered a header on target, but Chevalier made a routine collection.

How do Dortmund NOT have a goal? 

Chevalier was outstanding, making three crucial point-blank saves. Brandt took the first attempt, followed by Guirassy who also failed to find the net, as Chevalier stood tall. Brandt's shot from a distance was blocked by Meunier on the line, and Chevalier collected the ball at last.

Equally, a desperate and heroic defensive display eventually helped the danger pass.

Ryerson again took another attempt, but his grounded strike to the far post was denied by Chevalier, who pushed it around the post for a corner!

Pascal Gross went upfront sprinting toward the goal. The Borussia left-back entered the box from the left, as he attempted a right-footed curler which breezed past Chevalier who already came off his line. However, Alexsandro fired into the shot's line and blocked the effort on the goal-line!

Remuy Cabella orchestrated this attack, pulling strings of passes while entering the box from the right. He passed it to Haraldsson, who chipped the ball back into the box but Cabella's powerful strike sailed over the crossbar.

Meunier headed the ball to Ryerson following a long cross, but the latter's effort went over the crossbar!

Ismaily became dangerous on the left flank, as he came closer to the edge of the box before delivering a grounded pass that found David in the middle of the box. However, David's final attempt did not have much power, but Borussia custodian Kobel made a huge mistake in gripping the ball, as the ball trickled in through his legs, leading to an early LOSC goal!

Almost five minutes played and both teams are going fierce on every challenge.

The winner of this fixture will take on a high-flying FC Barcelona, who secured a 3-1 defeat in the second leg, winning the tie by 4-1 on aggregate against Benfica.

Karim Adeyemi's thunderous strike opened the scoring for Dortmund in the 22nd minute, which was canceled out later by Lille midfielder Hákon Arnar Haraldsson's equalizer in the 68th minute in the game.
