"We have to continue the process," East Bengal Carles Cuadrat after losing the Durand Cup 2023 Final against Mohun Bagan

A 10-man Mohun Bagan Super Giant defeated Emami East Bengal by 1-0 in the second Kolkata derby of the season to win the Durand Cup 2023 for a record 17th time. A lone goal from Dimitri Petratos was enough for the Green and Maroon team to win the Durand Cup 2023 final. With this win, Mohun Bagan became the most successful team in Durand Cup history. East Bengal head coach Carles Cuadrat explained what went wrong for them in the post-match press conference.

"I think that with the system that we are playing, the players work a lot for the team, but I don't want to talk just individuals because have been doing fantastic now. We have time to rest a little bit. We are planning a lot because we don't have the depth. It's difficult to find players at the moment. But I want to be positive," the East Bengal head coach said.

What will be the target for East Bengal after this loss?

"I got two silver medals in Indian football and three gold medals. You have to arrive at the finals to receive the gold medal and the players have been doing fantastic. The players have been working excellently. I had to take them out of their pits because they were with clubs all the time. So I think that all the supporters have to be very proud of the form of the players."

It was nothing. They were not creating anything, you know, but we had to take some risk. We would have played together. We tried to create something in attack and it happened. There is one very famous coach in Europe. He was European champion in the sixties. He was in Barcelona and he always said, it's easier to play with the players than to play with them.

"We are playing some good, good games. Even today we played a good game. We went to play face-to-face. This was a good test for us. A good test for the team. I think we are building OK. The team is doing very well. So I think it was a good start for us. We have to think about the consistency in Indian football because there is something is happening. We have to be more clever next season."
