Arsenal Football Club find themselves in possibly the best position to win the English Premier League since they last won it back in 2004. Having spent a lot of the season in the first place, they have never really had a chance to feel confident about winning the league, since Manchester City have always been on their tails.

Arsenal fans and the club as a whole should probably appreciate the position they are in, whilst they are in it because as we know from history, the Premier League is full of surprises and things can change in an instant. As it currently stands, if Manchester City win all their games, they will win the league. If Arsenal win all of their games, they will win the league. That is how close it is at the top, with both teams due to play each other on Wednesday 26th April.

Many betting websites are favouring Manchester City to win the league after Arsenal dropped points against Liverpool and also have a harder run of fixtures. Most betting sites will allow you to place a bet on who you think will be crowned champions if you want to. Arsenal Invincibles

Arsenal's last Premier League triumph came back in 2004, with their historic season where they did not lose a single premier league game, a record that was previously held by Preston North End back in 1888-89. Arsene Wenger was their manager at the time, arguably the most loved manager by the fans and holds the record for the longest reign as a manager of one club in the English Premier League.

Arsenal have won the Premier League just 3 times in their club's history and without a doubt, 2004 is their most memorable one. Overall, they have won 13 top-flight titles, which goes to show the stature of this club.

They went a total of 49 matches unbeaten which was spread across 3 seasons. This started in May 2003, until October 2004, where eventually their run came to an end against one of their biggest rivals, Manchester United.

During their invincible season, they won 26 times and drew 12 times. Some might say that this isn't the most impressive season to date, with Liverpool playing 38 games, winning 30, drawing 7 and only losing once, finishing the season of 2018-19 on 97 points. However, what hindered this season was the fact that even with 97 points, they still came second to Manchester City, who managed to tally up 98 points, despite losing 4 games.

However you look at it, an unbeaten season is without a doubt a remarkable achievement and even though it wasn't the highest points season, it was still an unbelievable achievement not to lose a single game in that campaign.

Arsenal In Recent Years

Towards the end of Wenger's reign, fans started to turn against him as he failed to deliver in most competitions. Arsenal were not up to scratch and were always fighting for Champions League places, something they consistently failed to achieve. Even when they did get it, they were still poor in that competition.

In the 2019-20 season they finished 8th, in the 2020-21 season, they also finished 8th. This meant that they had no European football at all, something their fans were not happy about. These were times where the club was in a big transition. They had lost a lot of experience and young talent was starting to come through the ranks. They had not had a concrete manager in charge either and the fans and media were doubting anyone that came through the door.

Mikel Arteta took over as manager in 2019 as well. He was heavily criticized after finishing 8th in his first 2 seasons. Arteta had not had any managerial experience. However, he was the assistant coach to Pep Guardiola at Man City for many years, which is why he managed to land the job. The club hoped he could implement what he had learnt from one of Football's finest managers. This is something that seems to be paying off now.

In the 2021-22 season, things started to improve as Arsenal finished 5th, however, this was heavily controversial as they seemed destined for the Champions League, only to drop too many points towards the end of the season and lose out to close rivals Tottenham, by 2 points.

What Happens Next?

Now they find themselves in an excellent position to win the title. If they fall short and finish second, they can still be proud of what they have achieved and build on this to not only compete for the Premier League title each season but also in other major competitions. Manchester City seem in great form with recent results and have the experience of winning titles from these positions.
