The Indian men's and women's hockey team lost to Spain in their first match of the 5 Nations Tournament Valencia 2023 on Friday.

Men's team went down 0-1 to Spain in 5 Nations Tournament Valencia 2023. The only goal of the match was scored by Spain's Alvaro Iglesias in the 29th minute. In the first quarter, both the teams got one penalty corner each but neither managed to score a goal.

In the second quarter, Spain attacked and earned a penalty corner, although it was saved by Krishan Pathak. The pressure on India was clearly visible. He received a green card and Spain immediately took advantage of the opportunity. Alvaro breached India's defense and scored a goal to give Spain the lead.

In the third quarter, there was a tough competition between both the teams to score the next goal but neither team could score. India earned two penalty corners in search of an equalizer in the last quarter, however, Spain saved both.

The Indian team will next face Belgium in the 5 Nations Tournament Valencia on Saturday.

On the other hand, the Indian Women's Hockey Team also started their campaign in the 5 Nations Tournament Valencia 2023 with a 2-3 loss against the hosts, Spain, on Friday. Gurjit Kaur (13') and Sangita Kumari (14') each scored a goal for India, while Sara Barrios Navarro (2'), Patricia Alvarez Nardiz (30'), and Julia Strappato Garreta (53') were on target for Spain.

The Indian Women's Hockey Team will face Belgium next at 22:15 on 16th December.
