It started on 13 October and culminated with the medal finals on 26 October. All games were played at the Municipal Stadium in Mexico CityMexico. And this year India achieved Bronze in the summer Olympic Tournament.

Performance of Men's hockey team at Olympic

Indian men's hockey team secured 4 wins and 2 draws in the group stages to each to the final stage. They conquered Australia in the semi-final and moved forward to lock horns with Pakistan in the finals. They played against Pakistan in the final and beat them 1-0. Surprisingly, the winning goal was a penalty stroke goal.

Team unity

Though they projected their team unity and spirit to the public. But the team was broken apart by politics, groupism and ego clashes in the months leading to the 1968 Mexico Olympics where Indian hockey's slide well and truly began.
