Theย Asian Amateur Boxing Championship is the highest competition for boxing amateurs inย Asia. The first tournament was hosted byย Bangkok ,Thailand in the year 1963 and is conducted every two years. There have been different editions for men and women till 2017. Thus in the year 2019, a combined edition of men and women took place for the first time at Bangkok,Thailand. The 31st edition of AABC took place between 24th-31st May, 2021 in Dubai, UAE where 150 competitors from 17 nations participated. The Indian team consisted of 19 members out of which 10 were women and 9 were men. 15 of them became Asian Boxing Championship Winners.

The 19 member Indian team ended the campaign on high with 15 members being the Asian Boxing Championship winners.This is the best ever performance by an Indian team at the Asian Boxing Championship as India won 2 gold, 5 silver and 8 bronze medals. Indiaโ€™s previous best show was in the year 2019 when the country secured 13 medals in total. Letโ€™s have a look at the Asian Boxing Championship Winners from India.

GOLD MEDAL WINNERS

India won a gold medal in both the Menโ€™s and Womenโ€™s section. In the Menโ€™s Heavyweight (91kg) category, Sanjeet Singh registered a 4-1 victory against Rio Olympic silver medalist and three times Asian Champion Vasilliy Levit. In the Womenโ€™s Middleweight (75kg), Indiaโ€™s Pooja Rani clinched her second successive Gold medal in the Asian Boxing Championship. She defeated Mavluda Movnolova of Uzbekistan in the final.

SILVER MEDAL WINNERS

India won 5 silver medals at the Asian Boxing Championship. Five time Asian Championship gold medalist Mary Kom settled for a silver in the 51kg Flyweight category. The London Olympic bronze medalist lost the final against Nazym Kyzaibay by split 2-3. In the light welterweight (60kg) category, Lal Buhat Saihi won a silver medal in her debut outing. Anupama Kundu also won a silver medal in the heavyweight category. Amit Pangal and Shiva Thapa also lost in the final. Amit lost to the Olympic champion Shakhobidin Zoirov of Uzbekistan. Thapa was defeated by Baatarsukh Chinzorig by 2-3.

BRONZE MEDAL WINNERS

Now letโ€™s take a look at the Asian Boxing Championship Winners who secured third position in their respective categories. India have won 8 bronze medals among which 6 medals have been won by women boxers.Simranjit Kaur (60kg), Lovlina Borgohain (69kg), Jaismine (57kg), Sakshi Chaudhary (54kg), Monika (48kg) and Saweety (81kg) secured bronze medals as they all lost the semi final matches. In the Menโ€™s category, Vikas Krishan and Varinder Singh also won bronze medals after losing in the semi-finals.
