Rhythm Sangwan became the 16th shooter from India to achieve the Paris Olympic quota after winning a bronze medal in the 25m sports pistol at the Asian Shooting Championships in Jakarta, Indonesia on Thursday. With this, India has secured the maximum quota for shooting in the Paris Olympics 2024 to be held in July-August.

Earlier, 15 shooters from India had participated in Tokyo Olympics 2020. This is India's third Paris Olympic quota in the Asian Qualifiers. Earlier, Esha Singh and Varun Tomar had achieved quota in the 10-meter air pistol women's and men's category.

20-year-old Rhythm from Haryana was part of India's 25m sports pistol team that also included Esha and Manu Bhaker that won the gold medal at the Hangzhou Asian Games last year. Rhythm finished third in the final with 28 points but this was enough to get her a Paris Olympic quota. Yang Jiin of China got the gold medal with 41 points and Kim Yeji of Korea got the silver medal with 32 points. This is Rhythm's second bronze medal in the Asian Olympic Qualifiers.

Rhythm also secured third place in 10 meter air pistol but she could not achieve Paris Olympic quota in this category. Giving credit for her success to personal coach Vineet Kumar, Rhythm said, I am happy that I could win the bronze medal and get the quota for the country.

Till now India has got 16 Paris Olympic quota places from shooting. These include 8 Olympic places in rifle, 6 in pistol and 2 in shotgun.

Moreover, two Olympic quota places for are at stake in this competition going on in Jakarta. 385 shooters from 26 countries are participating in the competition. Apart from the Olympic quota, 256 medals are at stake in this competition. These include 84 gold, 84 silver and 88 bronze.
