Tulika Maan secures place in the Paris Olympics 2024 through continental quota in judo

Tulika Maan finished 36th in the standings to secure a continental quota for India. It will be her first appearance at the Olympics, at the age of 25.

Delhi based judoka Tulika Maan on Tuesday has made her place in the Paris Olympics 2024 through continental quota in the +78Kg category of Judo. Tulika has achieved this feat by getting the highest marks in the continental ranking list.

Became 100th Indian athlete to earn qualification

For each of the 14 judo weight categories - seven each for men and women - at the Paris 2024 Olympics, the 17 highest-ranked athletes (one per country) as per IJF’s Olympic rankings obtained a quota. Tulika Maan became the 100th Indian athlete to earn a qualification.

Tulika, who raked up 1345 ranking points during the qualification period from June 22, 2022, to June 23, 2024, finished 36th in the standings to secure a continental quota for India. It will be her first appearance at the Olympics, at the age of 25.

Tulika came into limelight in 2022 Commonwealth Games 

25-year-old Tulika Maan first came into limelight after winning the silver medal in the Commonwealth Games 2022. Indian judoka Tulika has won many medals in the National Games.

Tulika had defeated South Korean judoka Kim Ha-yun, considered the Olympic favourite, in the Asian Judo Championship in 2024 itself.

Won many medals

Tulika Maan has won a silver medal at the national level and since 2019, she has also been participating in the World Tour of the International Judo Federation. Apart from this, she also won the bronze medal in the Asian Open held in Taipei. 

In 2017, Tulika made her debut in the World Championship held in Budapest. After this, in 2018 she became the winner of the Commonwealth Championship in Jaipur and then won the gold medal in the 2019 South Asian Games and Commonwealth Championship. Apart from that, Tulika was ranked seventh in the Asian Championships in 2017 and 2019.

India yet to win Olympic medal in judo since 2016

Avtar Singh (men’s 90kg) was the last Indian to compete in judo at the Olympics, in Rio 2016. India are yet to win an Olympic medal in judo.
