The Russian tennis player Daniil Medvedev (6th), who has won three titles in a magnificent start to 2023, came back against the German Alexander Zverev (14th) and qualified for the quarterfinals of the Indian Wells 2023 Tennis Masters 1,000.

Medvedev prevailed 6-7(5), 7-6(5), and 7-5 in an intense match of 3 hours and 17 minutes where he not only had to overcome a first set against but also had to deal with a sprained ankle during the second set after a nasty knockdown. The Indian Wells 2023 Tennis tournament's medical services were present to treat the injury. After that, Daniil returned to the court to sign a great attack against a Zverev who wasted 15 of the 17 break points he had.

Thus, Medvedev maintained his unbeaten streak since his elimination from the Australian Open. Seeded fifth from Indian Wells and the only one capable of defeating world number one Serbian Novak Djokovic so far this year, Medvedev has not lost a match in 2023 since losing in the third round of the Australian Open. The Russian's next rival will be the Spanish Alejandro Davidovich Fokina (28). Davidovich beat Chilean Christian Garín (91) this afternoon, 6-3, 6-4, after an hour and 24 minutes of fighting.

Meanwhile, the American Taylor Fritz (5) went one step further to endorse the title achieved last year. He beat the Hungarian Marton Fucsovics (84) 6-4, 6-3. In addition, the Englishman Cameron Norrie (12) also got into the quarterfinals. He defeated the Russian Andrey Rublev (7), with partials of 6-2 and 6-4. His next adversary will be the local Francis Tiafoe (16). Tiafoe prevailed over the Chilean Alejandro Tabilo (187), by a double 6-4.

At the same time, the American Coco Gauff recovered after being down by a break in the third set to overcome yesterday 6-3, 1-6, and 6-4 to the Swedish Rebecca Peterson, who arrived from the qualifying round, in Indian Wells and advanced to next round. The sixth seed of the Indian Wells 2023 Tennis tournament will now face Aryna Sabalenka. Sabalenka beat Barbora Krejcikova (16) 6-3, 2-6, and 6-4 yesterday.

World No 1 Jannik Sinner was set to be the top seed in the men’s singles draw, and in the men’s doubles draw alongside fellow Italian Lorenzo Musetti. In Sinner's absence, Novak Djokovic is set to be the top seed in Men's singles at the Paris Olympics 2024. The brackets will feature 64 players, resulting in 16 seeded players. To win the gold, one must win six matches. The top 16 pre-seeded players won't face each other in the first two rounds. The players from the same country also cannot face each other in the first two rounds.

Paris Olympics 2024 Men's Singles Seed

Novak Djokovic is likely making his last Olympic Games appearance and will be searching for his first gold medal. Djokovic won singles bronze at Beijing 2008 but a gold medal is the one prize he doesn't have won in his historic career.

The favourite for the gold is world No 3 and third seed, Carlos Alcaraz. Alcaraz is making his Olympic Games debut and coming after winning the French Open and Wimbledon, making him the most in-form player on tour.

Alexander Zverev is also a contender for the gold. World No. 5 Daniil Medvedev will compete as an authorized neutral athlete and is projected to be the fifth seed.

Indian tennis star Sumit Nagal on Monday continued his improvement in the ATP singles rankings and reached the 71st position, the highest ranking of his career.

Sumit Nagal, who was preparing for the Paris Olympics 2024, was ranked 77th last week. He managed to move up six places by finishing runner-up at the Perugia ATP Challenger tournament. Nagal now has 777 ATP points.

Nagal surpasses Leander Paes

Sumit Nagal also goes past Leander Paes by becoming the joint-fourth highest-ranked Indian man in ATP Rankings history. Paes had a career-high singles ranking of 73 in 1998. Ahead of Nagal and Menon, who were ranked 71st in the world in 1975, are Somdev Devvarman (62), Ramesh Krishnan (23), and Vijay Amritraj (18).

Only Indian to make it to the Paris Olympics in men's singles

By performing well recently, Sumit Nagal not only improved his ranking but also managed to secure a place in the men's singles of the Olympic Games. He is the only Indian player to make it into the men's singles draw of the Paris Olympics.

Nagal won Heilbronn Neckarcup 2024 Challenger event

Nagal made it to the second round of the Australian Open at the beginning of the year but was eliminated in the first round at the French Open. Matches in the Paris Games will also be held at Roland Garros where the French Open is played.
