At the Mexican Open, Alexander Zverev and Jenson Brooksby set a new record for the latest finish in a professional tennis match. In an opening-round encounter that ended around 4:55 a.m, World No. 3 Zverev thrashed his opponent (3-6 7-6 (10) 6-2). The contest lasted for three hours and twenty minutes before the German showed off his incredible talents to earn yet another victory.

In Mexican Open, former champion Zverev came to the court in the early morning against American Brooksby. Brooksby, who is 21 years old, smashed his rival in the eighth game of the matc. As a result, he won the first set by 6-3.

As both players grew tired, rallies grew lengthier, and the second set was decided by a tiebreak. During the tiebreak, Brooksby had two match points. However, Zverev kept his cool and sent the match into a decider after a second set that lasted approximately two hours. Eventually, at 4:55 a.m, the German's enthusiasm propelled him to victory, as he fetched the final set by 6-2.

Zverev's statment after the victory

As per Zverev's utterance, "Right now I'm happy I won. I don't know how Jenson feels, it must be difficult, but I'm happy to be a part of history. It was an incredible battle and an incredible match."

"Today I didn't play my best, there's no doubt about it. But I didn't give up, I knew I wanted to do well here. I'm the defending champion and I want to give myself the best chance to win. I did well surviving today," he further added.

Tuesday morning's finish broke the record set at the 2008 Australian Open when Lleyton Hewitt defeated Marcos Baghdatis in a match that ended at 4:34 a.m. Also, in the 29-year history of the hard-court outdoor tournament in Acapulco, a popular beach resort, Zverev's triumph in 3 hours, 22 minutes also set a record for the longest match.

However, The second-seeded Zverev will encounter Peter Gojowczyk in the second round.
