World No. 1 Rohan Bopanna reaches Australian Open final for the first time in Men's doubles

If Bopanna, who turns 44 in March, is successful in winning the Australian Open, he will also become the oldest player in the world to win a Grand Slam men's doubles title.

World No. 1 tennis player Rohan Bopanna and his Australian partner Matthew Ebden has reached the final of the men's doubles event of Australian Open 2024.

In the semi-final match played at Rod Laver Arena in Melbourne on Thursday, the Indo-Australian pair defeated second seeds Zhizhen Zhang and Tomas Machac 6-3, 3-6, 7-6 (10-7). Rohan Bopanna has reached the men's-doubles final of Australian Open for the first time. At the same time, with Ebden, he has reached the men's doubles final of the second consecutive Grand Slam.

In the final, the Bopanna-Ebden pair will face the winner of the other semi-final between Germany's Dominik Koepfer and Yannick Hanfmann and Italy's Andrea Vavassori and Simone Bolelli. Earlier the Bopanna-Ebden pair had defeated sixth seeds Máximo González and Andrés Molteni of Argentina 6-4, 7-6 in the quarterfinals that lasted one hour and 46 minutes.

In the semi-finals, after easily winning the first set 6-3 in 32 minutes, Rohan Bopanna and Matthew Ebden lost the second set 3-6. After this, when the third set was tied at 6-6, the match went into tiebreaker, which Bopanna-Ebden won by 10-7 and the set by 7-6.

43-year-old Bopanna had also reached the final of the Australian Open in 2023, but in the mixed doubles event. Bopanna reached the final of mixed doubles with Sania Mirza, but had to face defeat in the final. Overall, this is Bopanna's third Grand Slam final in men's doubles. Earlier, he had reached the final of the US Open with Ebden in 2023, where they had to face defeat at the hands of the pair of Rajeev Ram and Joe Salisbury. Apart from this, Bopanna has also reached the Grand Slam (US Open) final with Pakistan's Aisam-ul-Haq Qureshi.

Rohan Bopanna played in the Australian Open for the first time in 2008 and this is his best performance after playing this Grand Slam 17 times. Before this, his best performance was to reach the third round. Bopanna would like to win the men's doubles Grand Slam trophy for the first time with Ebden. However, he has won Grand Slam in mixed doubles. He also won the 2017 French Open with Gabriela Dabrowski.

At the same time, Matthew Ebden has won the Grand Slam men's doubles title once. He won the Wimbledon title in 2022 with Max Purcell of Australia. Wimbledon 2025 Semifinals | Live Streaming Details 

Wimbledon 2025 semifinals will be broadcast for free in Great Britain on the BBC, who cover the two weeks across their broadcast and digital channels. ESPN will show the tournament across South America and in the USA, where Tennis Channel also hold rights.

Canadian fans can follow the action live on TSN and RDS, while Nine Network Australia and Stan Sport share the broadcast of matches in Australia.

In India, Wimbledon semifinals will be shown on Star Sports and JioHotstar, with SPOTV the place to watch the tennis in the Philippines.

He has won seven Grand Slam singles title including four at the US Open and three at Wimbledon.

Besides, he has won nine Grand Slam men's doubles titles- five at Wimbledon and four at the US Open and one Grand Slam mixed doubles title at the French Open.

He made a record of 82-3 in singles.

He is the only man to complete a non-calendar year Grand Slam and the first man in the Open Era to achieve a double career Grand Slam.

Djokovic could even pull in Nadal’s 112 match wins at Roland Garros, although that would mean playing until at least 2026.
