Tokyo Olympics bronze medalist Lovlina Borgohain on Friday advanced to the quarter-finals of the 6th Elite Women's National Boxing Championships 2022 with a resounding victory in Bhopal.

Living up to the expectations, the Assamese boxer comfortably defeated Odisha's Puja Nayak in the 75kg last-16 stage match. Lovlina's relentless attacks and powerful punches proved too strong for her opponent as the reigning Asian champion was declared the winner via Referee Stops the Contest (RSC) decision just minutes into the first round of the bout.
Meanwhile, Railway Sports Promotion Board's Sonia Lather also made it to the 57kg quarter-finals after being given a walkover by Karnataka's Divyani. At the same time, Kalpana of Haryana registered a 5-0 win against Maharashtra's Janhavi Waghmare in the 50kg category. While Rajni Singh (48kg) and Rinky Kishore (50kg) made it to the quarterfinals from Uttar Pradesh. Rajni thrashed Punjab's Suvidha Bhagat 5-0 without breaking a sweat. While Rinki outclassed Kavitha Paravada of Andhra Pradesh in the RSC. The current tournament is seeing the participation of 302 boxers competing in 12 weight categories. The quarterfinals of the Women's National Boxing Championships 2022 will be played on Saturday.
