World Championship medalist Nikhat Zareen registered 5-0 victories to enter the quarterfinals of the 6th Elite Women’s National Boxing Championships 2022 in Bhopal on Thursday.

Nikhat, representing Telangana, defeated Meghalaya’s Eva Waynie Marbaniang in the 50kg pre-quarterfinal bout. At the same time, Railway Sports Promotion Board’s Manju Rani did the same to comprehensively defeat Uttarakhand’s Kavita in the 48kg last 16 contest. She also came up with an equally dominating performance and got the better of Uttarakhand’s boxer with a 5-0 margin to move into the next round. Manju had won a silver medal in the 2019 World Championships.
Meanwhile, 2017 Youth World Champion (RSPB) boxer Jyoti Gulia also entered the last 8 of 52kg after defeating Jharkhand’s Neha Tantubai by a unanimous decision. While Chandigarh’s Simran (48Kg) and Tamil Nadu’s M Dhivya (54Kg) were among the other boxers to emerge victorious and enter the quarterfinals on the third day of the competition, which saw 302 boxers competing in 12 weight categories.

Simran outpointed A Ritu Rao of Odisha by the referee, and Divya forfeited the contest. She got the better of Muni Leya of Arunachal Pradesh 5-0. On the other hand, Tokyo Olympics bronze-medallist Lovlina Borgohain (75kg) of Assam will play her last 16 bout against Puja Nayak on Friday. The quarter-final rounds in the 12 weight categories at the Women’s National Boxing Championships 2022 will begin on Saturday.
