Rohit Sharma explained that it was a tough task to bounce back and move forward after the final defeat. He stressed the need to divert attention from the defeat in the initial days. However, when Rohit interacted with people, he realized the immense support and appreciation he received for his efforts during the World Cup campaign.

“I had no idea how to come back from this for the first few days. It was my family, friends that kept me going. They kept things light. It wasn’t easy to digest but life moves on and it wasn’t easy to move on,” said Rohit, on his Instagram fan page, airing his sentiments for the first time since November 19, when the team lost to Australia in the ODI World Cup 2023 final.

Rohit Sharma expressed his gratitude for the tremendous support of the fans. He talked about the disappointment of not achieving the ultimate target despite winning all the matches till the World Cup 2023 final. He mentioned the importance of the 50-over World Cup as the ultimate prize for him and the disappointment of not achieving that dream.

“I have always grown up watching the 50-over World Cup. To me that was the ultimate prize, the 50-over World Cup. We’ve worked all these years, for that World Cup. And it is disappointing, right? If you don’t get through it, don’t get what you want, what you have been looking for all this while, what you were dreaming of. You get disappointed. You get frustrated as well at times,” Rohit said.

Despite the disappointment, Rohit Sharma appreciated the love and understanding shown by the fans. The positive messages and support from people acknowledging the team's efforts have been a source of motivation for them to come back, work harder and strive for one more last award.

“Everywhere we went during this entire campaign, there was so much support from everyone who came to the stadium firstly and people who were watching it from home as well."
