ICC snatches hosting of Champions Trophy 2025 from Pakistan

Champions Trophy 2025 is set to be moved out of Pakistan, the original designated hosts of the tournament. Pakistan won the last edition of the Champions Trophy, which was played in 2017, and was set to host the much-awaited ICC tournament at home after a long time.

After World Cup 2023, ICC's second biggest event in ODI format is ICC Champions Trophy 2025. This tournament is proposed to be organized in Pakistan in the month of February-March. Pakistan Cricket Board is also busy preparing for this event, but according to the latest reports, ICC may snatch the hosting of Champions Trophy from Pakistan. The lack of stadium with high standard facilities in Pakistan could be a major reason behind this.

According to reports, ICC set to snatch the hosting rights of ICC Champions Trophy 2025 from Pakistan and hand it over to UAE and all the matches can be played in Dubai. Or it may also happen that if the Indian government does not allow Team India to go to Pakistan, then the Champions Trophy can also be played in a hybrid model.

Pakistan was also the organizer of Asia Cup 2023, but after BCCI refused to send Team India to Pakistan, Asia Cup was organized in hybrid model. Out of total 13 matches, 4 matches were played in Pakistan while 9 matches including all the major matches with India were played in Sri Lanka. The absence of the Asia Cup in Pakistan was a loss for cricket there. If the hosting of the Champions Trophy (ICC Champions Trophy 2025) is also snatched away, then it will be another big blow and Pakistan will have to bear the brunt of it financially.

As far as moving the whole Champions Trophy 2025 to other country, U.A.E has always been used as an alternative to Pakistan. So, it is the most viable option at the moment, and end up might hosting their first Champions Trophy.

The Champions Trophy 2025 will be the 9th edition of the tournament and the first one after 8 long years. India and Australia have won the title twice while Pakistan, New Zealand, South Africa and West Indies have each won the title once.
