Hence Indian Premier League was established. 8 teams play in IPL and the names of the teams are based on different Indian cities. On 18th April 2008, the first match of IPL took place between Royal Challengers Bangalore and Kolkata Night Riders at the Chinnaswamy Stadium, Bangalore. The 2021 IPL got postponed and had to be rescheduled due to the rise in the COVID-19 pandemic in India.
