Hosts Papua New Guinea went into the ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2024 East Asia Pacific Qualifier as one of the favorites, and they proved themselves well in the qualifier stage with impressive performances. On the other hand, two European countries have made it to the world cup from the Europe Region Qualifier. Papua New Guinea qualified after a resounding win against Philippines. While Ireland and Scotland beat Germany and Denmark respectively to secured qualification tickets.

Papua New Guinea has maintained a solid report card with wins in each of the five matches they have played (twice each against Vanuatu and the Philippines and once against Japan). With their latest win against the Philippines with a 100-run win, PNG now has 10 points from five wins. After that, their place in the T20 World Cup 2024 is confirmed with one game to spare against Japan on Saturday, 29 July.

Meanwhile, Scotland, under the captaincy of Richie Berrington, has been performing consistently well and is becoming increasingly difficult to beat. They have won five of the five matches they have played in the tournament so far. It looks like the opposition will have to work very hard to stop them. Ireland, on the other hand, have won four out of five matches and are still undefeated. Their latest tie against Germany was abandoned without a ball being bowled.

The T20 World Cup 2024 is going to be jointly hosted by the West Indies and the United States. Since the inception of the tournament in 2007, not a single edition has been organized jointly. Hence, the tournament is expected to be even grander this time around. The tournament will feature 20 teams and initially four groups of five teams each will compete in the first round. The top two teams from each group will advance to the Super 8 from where again the top four teams at the end of the Super 8 will qualify for the semi-finals.
