Delhi Capitals' third offence of the season
"Mr Rishabh Pant, Captain, Delhi Capitals has been fined and suspended for one match for breaching the IPL Code of Conduct after his team maintained a slow over-rate during Match 56 of the TATA Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 against Rajasthan Royals at the Arun Jaitley Stadium, Delhi on May 07, 2024," the press release said.
It was Delhi's third offence of the season under the IPL's Code of Conduct relating to minimum over-rate offences that's why Rishabh Pant is fined INR 30 Lakhs and suspended for one match. The remaining members of the Playing XI, including the Impact Player, are each individually fined INR 12 Lakhs or 50% of their respective match fees, whichever is the lesser amount.
As per Article 8 of the IPL Code of Conduct, Delhi Capitals filed an appeal challenging the ruling of the Match Referee. The appeal was further referred to the BCCI Ombudsman for review. BCCI conducted a virtual hearing and announced that the decision of the Match Referee remains final and binding.
This is the third time this season that Pant has had to pay the fine. He was fined Rs 24 lakhs for a second over-rate offence in match 16 against the Kolkata Knight Riders in Vizag. Before that, DC maintained a slow over-rate in the game against Chennai Super Kings at the same venue and Pant was fined Rs 12 lakhs.
Delhi Capitals will now have to somehow manage the important game against Royal Challengers Bangalore. Delhi have to win 2 out of 2 games to secure their spot for the playoffs but RCB are in a sensational run as they have won all four previous matches comfortably.
